Zanus has said he will not stand this year in the Consul election which thus makes Jimmy's election later this year a formality (unless he is caught in bed with a dead girl or something). Zanus did say he would consider running for Consul at some stage but would remain an independent.
It is being speculated that Zanus has come to an agreement with the Liberal Party of Jimmy that they will not oppose him when he does decide to stand, perhaps next year though the Health Minister and Deputy Leader of the Liberals Spikeson is said to be keen to have his "turn" sooner or later.
With Jimmy now a near certain for 2110 attention is turning to 2111 which will be the first time Imperial Order and the Liberals go head to head. It will also be the last chance for people to become Consul before people who have already become Consul become eligible again under the 5 year rule. Ronald and GBH are both eligible for election again in 2112 and MBH in 2113. Winning an election against candidates of that calibre would be challenging to say the least.
El Diablo is the highest profile member of Imperial Order yet to take the office though the former Emperor still suffers from negative perceptions after his disastrous rule in the 2090s.
