360 CIWS is the standard close-in weapon system of the DDS, based on a Raegris design. With 360 CIWS the whole outer structure of a ship is the "gun", energy bursts being directable in any direction with no gaps in coverage.
360 CIWS Release 2 has been developed in conjunction with the Raegris and will begin rolling out to replace existing installations on DDS and Raegris ships and be fitted on new conversions. Release 2 has improved reaction times, a longer range and the energy bursts can be variable in intensity to allow for striking different categories of objects (an incoming missile may require less energy to be destroyed than a UCV for example).
