Operation Civilian Partnership 2122

NS have announced the first major exercise since the take-over by the MBO will take place in early August. Viceroy Caratore canceled the existing exercise schedule but has said a new schedule will be drawn up in 2123 with adhoc exercises held in 2122. Atomic Fist was supposed to be held now though Caratore has decided to not hold it this year due to the shortage of ships.

Instead Civilian Partnership, the annual humanitarian and disaster response exercise, will be held. The theme will be recovery from a nuclear attack on a UNP major city. Mock evacuations, rescue and decontamination exercises will be held at locations on Solaris and Proxima 7.

The ships involved are:

36-106 Madwort (flagship)

37-101 Solaris

19.9.18

Operation Civilian Partnership 2118

Delayed a week due to the conflict on Starbot NS will run it's annual humanitarian exercise in the next few days. The scenario this year is famine relief and will test the ability of NS logistics to take large quantities of food supplies to UNP citizens, though no actual cargo will be taken.

As part of the exercise NS transports will be "urgently" summoned to Solaris and then travel to Mars to "unload". The ships involved will be:

023-102 Atlas (flagship)

27.9.17

Operation Civilian Partnership 2117

The annual disaster relief exercise began on Monday, this year it is based on Mars and Terra and involves recovery from massive loss of computer systems after an EMP attack. NS and UNP personnel will practice in a low-tech scenario co-ordinating the delivery of relief supplies and the evacuation of "injured" civilians.

An abandoned mining settlement on Mars will be used for most of the exercises. It will be subjected to a real EMP attack using an NS pulse weapon (fired by the deployment flagship SS Weasel, a Warrior 16A bomber). NS and UNP personnel will then have to see how they cope without most of their tech toys! The ships involved will be:

016-110 Weasel (flagship)
051-102 Centurion
047-101 Fighting Falcon
047-202 Penguin

9.9.16

Operation Civilian Partnership 2116

The annual humanitarian / disaster relief exercise is still going ahead despite the NS/UNP already being engaged on a real disaster relief at Golinar Sigma (privately the NS are said to be glad for the chance to really stretch their resources to provide a "real test"). Civilian Partnership 2116 is to be based around Remedia Prime and Mila and will test integration with Remedian and Raegris ships and agencies on a number of simulated disaster scenarios. The exercise will last just over a week and include the following NS ships.

L132 Iapetus Ocean (flag)
H201 Mulberry
M172 Black Sea
M208 Champion
L151 Oceania
L156 North America
A110 Lodestar

Two Remedian ships from the RCPP will also attend thought to be M203R and M206R as well as 3 Raegris ships.

30.8.15

Civilian Partnership 2115

The latest edition of the DDS' humanitarian and disaster relief exercise is due to begin in early September. This year (and maybe topically) the exercise will involve civilian evacuation and relief during a war. The exercise will be based around the Remedian planet of Mila with Remedian ships acting as an "enemy" (though there will be no combat exercises but the Remedians will "harass").

The exercise will involve evacuation, resettlement in a temporary camp and relief delivery. Around 3000 volunteers from Remedian and Terran relief agencies will act as the displaced civilians. Remedian agencies will also take part (along with the UNP) to train in interoperability. The ships involved will be:

L151 Oceania (flagship)

Northern Project ends, 2115 schedule announced

The final exercise of the year Northern Project has ended after a final mock combat between DDS and "enemy" ships (the role played by Raegris, Porquatian, Dino and DDS Departmental Service ships). The DDS has now begun winding down for the Christmas break.

The DDS have decided to add a 5th exercise for next year. Info Affairs 2115 will concentrate on special forces and cyber warfare. The full schedule for 2115 is below :
  • Ground Shock 2115 (March) - ground attack, amphibious assault
  • Info Affairs 2115 (May) - special forces, cyber warfare
  • Atomic Fist 2115 (July) - strategic attack
  • Civilian Partnership 2115 (September) - humanitarian relief
  • Northern Project 2115 (December) - full spectrum "mock war"

18.9.14

Civilian Partnership ends

The DDS' big annual humanitarian and disaster relief Civilian Partnership has ended after an intense 2 weeks where a mass pandemic caused by a biological weapon was simulated and the DDS led the relief effort along with the UNP's disaster relief agency UNP-RRT.

DDS Director of Operations Knobhead said the exercise had highlighted some shortcomings in DDS Medical Services ability to handle mass quarantined casualties. More equipment would be ordered and procedures reviewed.

4.9.14

Civilian Partnership 2114

The DDS' big annual humanitarian and disaster relief exercise will begin in a few days in conjunction with the UNP's disaster relief agency UNP-RRT. The exercise will take place on Liberation again though the theme has changed from a simulated asteroid strike to a major disease outbreak as it was thought an asteroid was too similar to last year's exercise which simulated an orbital bombardment and nuclear power stations going critical.

The exercise will simulate an enemy power unleashing a biological weapon on the planet with containment, communication, liaison and treatment phases of the exercise which is expected to last 2 weeks. The ships to be involved are:

L131 Tethys Ocean (flag)
A901 Florence Nightingale
L151 Oceania
L156 North America
S224 Fuji
H161 Solaris
M133 Firedrake
K109 Sulla (with photo reconnaissance module)
K157 Osprey
K162W Pelican
K167W Puffin
A111 Forwarder
A229 Orinoco
A159 Hexane

24.7.14

Civilian Partnership may simulate asteroid strike

The next DDS exercise is Civilian Partnership 2114 due for September, this exercise trains the DDS in humanitarian and non-combat operations working alongside UNP agencies. It is rumoured that this year's exercise will take place on Liberation and could simulate an asteroid strike.

One source claims that the exercise scenario will be a medium sized asteroid striking the planet and the resulting disaster relief and evacuation response. No actual strike will take place of course and the DDS and Liberation government will be careful to highly publicise the fact beforehand, Last year's exercise was also held on the planet and simulated an orbital attack on nuclear power stations. One radio station thought the attack was real and sparked panic in some towns.

7.7.14

Shiner removes remaining financial restrictions

The DDS' CFO The Shiner has removed the remaining financial restrictions on the DDS meaning that operations should now be back to normal. The ceiling on orders was already lifted but there were still restrictions on deployments and readiness to save money.

The DDS can now resume its normal operating rhythm as existed before the New Puritan Way crisis. Preparations for the next big DDS exercise Civilian Partnership 2114 can also now begin.

17.11.13

DDS to concentrate on just 4 exercises next year

The DDS are to stop having monthly training exercises and instead concentrate on 4 larger exercises next year. The 4 exercises will have a more "multi-spectrum" approach with as many parts of the DDS included as possible. For example Atomic Fist 2114 will, as well as the core strategic attack mission, include mock combats, cyber warfare, special forces and minesweeping missions.

The schedule for 2114 is therefore (primary mission objective given) :
  • Ground Shock 2114 (March) - ground attack, amphibious
  • Atomic Fist 2114 (June) - strategic attack
  • Civilian Partnership 2114 (September) - relief, humanitarian
  • Northern Project 2114 (December) - full-spectrum mock "war"
The special forces exercise Winter Candle 2113 will take place as scheduled next month but then from January 1st the DDS will switch to the new schedule a DDS spokeswoman said.

11.11.13

DDS to have fewer, larger exercises

DDS Commander Firefly has ordered the DDS to cease the practice of a monthly military exercise and instead concentrate resources for 4 quarterly exercises. The reason being he feels the exercises are often too specialised and the DDS needs to learn how to use specialist skills together in conjunction instead of developing them in a vacuum.

To that end an amended schedule for 2114 will be published soon, the three big exercises of the current calendar will survive (Ground Shock, Atomic Fist and Civilian Partnership) and be joined by a new exercise that involves as much of the DDS capability spectrum as possible (Northern Project could be used as the template).

23.9.13

Operation Civilian Partnership 2113

The second running of the DDS' annual humanitarian and disaster relief exercise is set for the start of October. This time the exercise will be set on and around Liberation and will simulate the aftermath of an orbital bombardment attack including nuclear power stations gone critical. The DDS and the UNP's rescue-relief team UNP-RRT will perform simulated containment operations and evacuations.

The ships to be involved will be :

L132 Iapetus Ocean (flag)
S221 Olympus Mons
H106 Topcat
M161 Sea Of The Hebrides
M171 Mediterranean Sea
L153 South East Asia
L156 North America
A101 Provider
A155 Pentane
  • The Clone Navy's anti-piracy offensive has continued, the only reported attack being by 2 K85NTKs from the carrier CNS Clone Empire which bombed a pirate jetty. As with some of the previous attacks the jetty was later found to have already been abandoned.

10.12.12

Winter Candle 2112 / Exercise schedule for 2113

The final exercise of the year began yesterday, like last year Winter Candle involves special forces. This year the Dino SS-D have joined the DDS Prowlers for a series of simulated incidents including hostage recovery, covert surveillance and anti-terrorism operations. One exercise that has been missed this year is Ground Shock which has taken place in November in previous years but the DDS say this will now occur next month and will start the 2113 programme.

As for Winter Candle the ships taking part are :

A301E Marconi (flag)
H122 Illustrious
H169 Sanger Alpha
M125 Forward
A155 Pentane
