Clones reinforce troops on Oscar

Although the insurgency is being contained on Oscar the CDF are concerned that much of the planet's defence force is fairly "low grade" and not used to fighting insurgencies. The attacks have continued and the CDF death toll is now standing at 50.

A company of Red Lizard special forces has arrived on Oscar and extra K85 COIN aircraft are on the way from Cloneworld.

Fighting continues on Oscar

Five more attacks on CDF positions were reported overnight as the insurgency has continued, the most notable attack being an oil tanker which exploded at a CDF checkpoint. No word on casualties has yet been given though Clone news reports say there have been fatalities on both sides.

The CDF have also fought back, K40 and K85 aircraft attacked a suspected insurgent base. Two insurgents were also arrested while trying to set a car bomb near the capital.

• Ground Shock 2114 has ended following a final full-spectrum exercise near Remedia Prime. The final exercise was a "mini war" including space combat, reconnaissance, mine warfare, special forces and amphibious warfare elements.

Outbreak of fighting on Oscar

Anti-Clone insurgents are said to have had attacked a number of Clone Defence Force positions on Oscar, a planet with a sizeable human population. Sixteen CDF members were killed in the attacks, 9 insurgents are also reported to have been killed. The most notable attack was on an airbase which came under mortar attack, despite a fuel depot being set alight no aircraft (the base has K85 and Z26) were damaged.

The authorities have put the planet's defence forces on full alert. Two CDF warships in orbit are also conducting reconnaissance.

Force West to end by end of year

As expected the DDS are disbanding the Force West deployment based at New Jakarta which was intended as a show of strength to try and deter Clone moves to bring Oscar into the Clone Star Empire. As that now seems to be a fait accompli the DDS will revert to a smaller and permanent presence at their newly improved New Jakarta orbital dock.

A brigade of the New DDS Army will be relocated to New Jakarta at a later date taking advantage of the excellent training facilities already on the planet. The planet may thus become a secondary home port for the DDS' growing fleet of amphibious landing ships.

Leaked Oscar vote shows big vote for unification

The official result of the Oscar referendum to decide if the planet joins the Clone Star Empire or not is not due until early December but has been leaked to a newspaper in the former capital of the human half of the planet (though the city is now mostly Clone populated like most of the planet). 86% are reported to have voted for unification.

Anti-unification protestors rioted in the city when news broke of the result resulting in 34 arrests and 6 rapes. The Oscar authorities have refused to comment on the result and have instead asked for patience and calm.

Oscar vote goes without (much of) a hitch

On the 15th of November a referendum was held on Oscar to decide if the planet should apply to join the Clone Star Empire or not. Heavy security was mounted across the planet to guard against a terrorist attack but there were only 2 reported incidents and 1 injury when a mortar bomb was fired at a polling station. It missed and instead landed in a chicken farm. No Clones or Humans were killed though 158 chickens perished.

The HCS and CAO have denied they were heavy-handed with security and intimidated those against the unification. However it is probably not a coincidence that protests against unification were banned for "security reasons" but those for were allowed to take place.

The result of the vote will be announced in December.

New Jakarta joins UNP

New Jakarta's fast track into the UNP has been completed and the colony has become the latest planet in the UNP. It has already been an important DDS base for a couple of years especially since the moves to bring Oscar into the CSE.

New Jakarta will be linked into the UNP network sometime next year though a temporary network set up by the DDS is already in place. 209 million zarks have been earmarked from the UNP for civic infrastructure construction. The population has trebled in a few years though mostly due to evacuated humans from Oscar.

Prowler units withdraw from Oscar

Although not officially there it was common knowledge that DDS special forces known as Prowler units have been operating on Oscar to support human insurgency operations against the CAO and HCS. Now however it is thought that Prowler units have withdrawn from Oscar along with several dozen human insurgents.

There are two reasons for this, one is the upcoming vote on Oscar joining the Clone Star Empire which is expected to be positive for unification and second is that is insurgency was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain with much of the human population having left Oscar already for relocation on nearby New Jakarta and large HCS forces arriving.

With the Prowlers now left it is expected the HCS may withdraw some units from Oscar after the vote has taken place. Space forces have already been lessened in an attempt to defuse tensions with the DDS.

DDS losing interest in Oscar?

News that Oscar would soon vote on whether it should join the Clone Star Empire prompted the DDS to bolster it's forces at nearby New Jakarta and form Force West. However the feeling now eminating from the DDS is that Oscar joining the CSE is pretty much a done deal. Thus the forces at New Jakarta are now longer considered to try and deter unification but handle any CSE incursion.

As relations with the Clones are reasonable at the moment and the prospect of war with them highly unlikely (neither side really wants the 4th Clone War any time soon) it could be Force West is disbanded sooner than expected. A permanent patrol deployment will be based at New Jakarta however.

Oscar vote on November 15th

The Oscar government has announced the referrendum to decide whether Oscar will join the Clone Star Empire or not will be held on November 15th with the result known by December. It is widely anticipated that the vote will be "yes" though the DDS have warned the Clones not to incorporate Oscar into the CSE.

A DDS spokesman said it was unlikely the referrendum would take place unless the Clones were pretty sure they would win. Security has been further tightened on Oscar ahead of the vote though insurgents have been quiet over recent months.

DDS despatch battlegroup to New Jakarta

Following news that Oscar is to vote on whether to join the Clone Star Empire the DDS have responded by forming a battlegroup and sending it to the DDS base on New Jakarta, which is just over 1 lightyear from Oscar. The battlegroup, called Force West, is headed by a Missileer cruiser and contains 80 Ferret-E UCVs.

Oscar to "decide" on joining Clone Star Empire

Oscar has announced a referendum (though no date for when it will take place yet) to decide if Oscar should give up it's independence and join the Clone Star Empire. The DDS have protested such a move saying that the planet must remain independent though already know that it is unlikely the referendum will be made unless they are reasonably sure of success.

A recent poll suggested 78% of the Clone population wanted unification. Only 12% of the non-Clone population wanted it but recent mass emigrations have made these a definite minority on the planet now.

Faction In Focus : Oscar (updated)

Up until a few years ago Oscar was a very insignificant planet, but recently it has been the cause of near conflict between the DDS and HCS.

Oscar was discovered in the 2070s but was not settled until 2092 when the effect of some climate engineering started in 2075 began to take effect and the climate cooled to near Earth like conditions. Oscar was settled illegally by both humans and clones, both refugees from the late 3rd Clone War and this was the source of the later problems.

The two sides have formed unofficial nations on the planet's only continent though the human side (Oscar Human Authority) was rather chaotic, falling quickly into a dictatorship. The New Clone Nation Of Oscar (NCNO) was not much better though. Both sides seem to be largely united by hatred for the other side.

Conflict between the Human Authority and NCNO soon drew the attention of the DDS and HCS. The NCNO appealed to the HCS for military assistance. The DDS told the HCS not to intervene and there was a minor skirmish. After talks between the DDS and HCS there was an uneasy truce with ships from both sides present to make sure there are no illegal weapon shipments to the two sides.

Then the Human Authority collapsed after it's dictator tried to force the DDS to help them by kidnapping The Orchid. After he was killed anarchy returned to the streets. The humans are now too busy fighting each other to bother with the NCNO. The NCNO began to re-arm it's army the Clone Army of Oscar (CAO) with HCS help, the blockade gradually falling. The DDS began to openly arm the Oscar Terran Army (OTA) in reply. Both the DDS and HCS agreed to not intervene directly though both sides did break this, it is common knowledge that "advisers" were heavily active on both sides.

The CAO, with a greater population and a more stable government behind it, eventually defeated the OTA and conquered the whole planet. Many humans, especially those involved with the OTA and human government were allowed to leave Oscar in DDS ships. Hardline humans have begun an insurgency against the HCS and CAO. The HCS have accused the DDS of supplying these insurgents with weapons though the DDS have denied it saying the insurgents are using weapons left behind by the DDS when they vacated the planet when the OTA fell.

Although the DDS have warned the HCS not to annex the planet a legion was soon "invited" to Oscar by the NCNO to assist with security. It is likely that Oscar will one day become part of the Clone Star Empire, and it's location would make it a very strategic position for the HCS. The DDS have already begun the process to bring the nearby world of New Jakarta into the UNP and DDS.

Randalf 74 insurgency explodes

With the insurgency on Oscar continuing, another HCS aircraft was shot down yesterday an A-85 COIN bomber, the insurgency on Randalf 74 has rumbled on at a low intensity but this has suddenly raised above the radar. Some think the insurgents on R74 have been inspired by their Oscar counterparts.

A HCS barracks was shelled by a mortar to start the attacks, two soldiers were wounded. Later the same day 2 Tapir IFVs were damaged by IEDs placed in the road along their patrol route, 3 soldiers were killed. A HCS officer was also shot by a sniper in a provincial city. It has also been reported a HCSAF F-45 was shot at by a hand-held SAM but the missile was evaded.

Captain Clone has told his commanders on Randalf 74 and Oscar to crush the insurgents.

Major upsurge in insurgency on Oscar

After some quiet weeks the insurgency on Oscar has suddenly exploded with a series of devastating attacks launched on the CAO (Clone Army of Oscar) and HCS "guest" forces on the planet. Over the last few days the following attacks have been reported by Oscar and HCS media:

• A C-440 operated by the CAO (loaned from the HCSAF) was shot down by a SAM near Renira Air Base. The aircraft was carrying 47 CAO troops and crew, all died in the crash.
• Two HCS lorries carrying a mixture of HCS and CAO troops were destroyed by IEDs near the capital. 16 troops were killed.
• A HCS signal relay station near Olive Grove was struck by RPGs killing 4 HCS troops.
• A A-85 COIN aircraft operated by the CAO was shot down by gunfire near Talant Forge, the crew managed to eject.
• Bombs planted on an oil tanker were exploded when the tanker was driven into a HCS base near Olive Grove. 68 HCS troops and base staff have been reported killed.

In return HCS and CAO forces, including Zone troops, have been sweeping known rebel strongholds. 6 human rebels have been reported killed, 4 were captured and they are now being entertained by the gentleman of the Clone Secret Services (CSS).

Zones arrive on Oscar, massacre already

A company of troops from the 1st Zone Infantry Brigade has arrived on Oscar as part of the HCS "peace keeping guests" force. The Zones have already slaughtered around 12 occupants of a human village near to their base. The HCS said the incident was regrettable and action would be taken against those responsible though no more details were given.

In reality the HCS have purposely sent the Zones there DDS sources say as this is part of an effort to remove all humans from Oscar before it can be bought into the Clone Star Empire. Some 60% of the human population has already left or is preparing to.

The human insurgency is continuing however, a lull in attacks was broken when 3 soft-skinned HCS vehicles were destroyed by IEDs killing 4 HCS soldiers. An army base was also struck by mortar fire though there were only slightly injuries.

Tensions rise over Oscar

Tensions between the DDS and HCS have risen again following the resumed insurgency against HCS forces on Oscar and the massacre of human villagers by the IG. The DDS have condemned the Clones for their "brutal crimes" and in return the DDS have been condemned for supplying weapons to the insurgency. An interesting point to note is that the DDS have stopped denying it.

Ambassador Sleeze has said humans are welcome to live on Oscar in peace though also said a battalion of Zone troops would be soon coming to Oscar to assist with security.

HCS deny reprisals on Oscar

Following a devastating attack, thought to have been a truck bomb, on a HCS camp which left nearly 40 HCS soldiers dead it has been reported a battalion of the new IG (Imperial Guard) slaughters dozens of human villagers in a reprisal. The HCS have denied this but said some humans were accidentally killed in the battle with the insurgents.

The IG is the replacement for the Religious Police and has only recently been declared operational. They are in charge of internal security and counter-espionage, a role similar to the Dino SS. Though the IG is as yet still a small organisation with only a few 1000 troops. The SS by comparison is more powerful than most military powers on it's own.

Insurgency erupts on Oscar

If the HCS thought occupying Oscar would be peaceful they are mistaken, after a few months quiet human insurgents have begun a serious campaign against HCS forces. In the first attack an F-40 was shot down with a SAM, later on 2 Tapir IFVs were destroyed by IEDs while on patrol. Following that were a number of other attacks by a shadowy enemy who are well trained and have advanced weapons.

Indeed the HCS have accused the DDS of supplying the insurgents. The DDS replied that the insurgents must be using weapons left behind or discarded by the OTA.

HCS moves more forces into Oscar

The HCS have despatched an extra 3 brigades, 1 armoured, to join the 2 already on the planet as well as 2 air regiments, the 132nd Air Defence (a F-40 unit) and the 229th COIN (A-85). All of those forces have been "invited" by the Clone government on Oscar to help in protecting "Clones and humans" from insurgents.

Not that there is much insurgency at the moment, there have been sporadic attacks by OTA units on Clone positions but in at least one of these incidents the OTA unit had been cut off from communications and didn't know there had been a ceasefire for months!

920 humans have applied to leave Oscar and 1000s more are thought to be considering it. The HCS have allowed the DDS to bring a transport into Oscar orbit to help in humanitarian work, a Provider is on the way.
