Fleet news (03/06/09)

Two powerful new ships have joined the fleet this week. Missileer 21A carrier R108 Yeoman and Panther 35A destroyer D111 Civet have both joined the 1st Fleet.

Yeoman is testing a number of upgrades which will be rolled out to the rest of the Missileer 21A fleet later in the year. These include an improved UCV control system, an improved main databus and better toilet facilities. The Missileer 21A is a SUP based design and thus has a "rougher" ride than other combat types as it is, basically a large freighter with ultra-heavy armament. The engine management system and hyperspace field optimiser are both being refined to reduce vibrations which has been known to affect the accuracy of weapons at speed.

The Remedian Police's fleet of Kalahati Tuul 39A destroyers has been assessed for upgrades and it has been decided to bring the older ships up to the HCS Kalahati Tuul 2N standard of the last 4 ships. This includes a higher performance and improved structural integrity. The older ships will be given engine upgrades, the DDS has purchased 7 engines from the Clones (5 are needed, 2 will be spares). The upgrades will be known as the Kalahati Tuul 39B and will keep the ships competitive for the next 10 years or so. The upgrades begin later this year.
