"Three Cs" revisited

Back in 2108 the DDS unveiled it's plans for future warships which was quickly called the "Three Cs" by the media as the 3 ship project names all started with C. Now 2 years on the projects have been revised by the DDS and a report was made on the current status of each project at a media briefing at DDS Research by Dr Forbidden.
  • Chrysalis - the future cruiser project has changed quite dramatically over the last 2 years. What began a Pulsar replacement became a developed Missileer but now the project is back to being a pure cruiser. The latest designs are said to show a lot of influence from the Panther design though this is unconfirmed. The DDS are aiming to issue a specification later this year. Entry into service is planned for the late 2110s.
  • Corkscrew - the future frigate project is the most well-known of the 3 projects and recently was bought forward a few years with the mid-part of this decade being the target date for the Corkscrew to enter service. The Rome platform has been chosen as the basis for Corkscrew. Specifications will be finalised this year with a design lock-down planned for 2113. Service date is "around 2115".
  • Crankcase - the future light patrol project is the least important of the 3 because of changes to the DDS fleet over the last couple of years and the disappearance of the Pentekonter from the patrol role which Crankcase was supposed to replace! Crankcase is now going to look at Rome replacements in the 2120s.
However at the end of his briefing Dr Forbidden surprised reporters by unveiling a "4th C"!  "Cordial" will look to replace the SUP in the 2130s. Now as the SUP is the basis of much of the fleet ranging from the Missileer, to the Tethys Ocean to the Provider and Extender Cordial is potentially the biggest and most important project of all.
