The Orchid launches DDS West and AVS Support Flotilla

The Orchid has announced the DDS will create a new command called DDS West based around the DDS' key allies in the region of space near the Aritans. DDS West will include New Arit, Sirikwan and the Voth Free Republic. The Orchid wants the Aritans to take the lead in running this new command which will have it's HQ on New Arit. The Orchid said she had held talks with the Aritan military about taking on these new responsibilities.

DDS West will include the Aritan and Voth fleets (the first 2 Voth Kalahati Tuuls are now fully operational) with DDS warships and support from the Sirikwanese. The DDS contingent will be drawn from the existing Force Voth deployment.

The Orchid also announced the formation of the Arit-Voth-Sirikwan (AVS) Support Flotilla. Two Extender-Es will be bought for the Aritans though they will be crewed by personnel from the DDS and other DDS West members. These 2 oilers will join the 2 Extenders already in operation with the Aritan fleet in providing support for DDS West operations. Sirikwan's Extenders will also be drawn into the flotilla.

DDS West, including the ships in Force Voth has the following forces available:

1 cruiser (Pulsar)
20 destroyers (Intrepid, Kalahati Tuul)
11 frigates (Solaris II, Reliwan, Terran Sea)
12 patrol boats (Pentekonter, Helwin)
7 oilers + transports (Extender, Relan)
120+ Ferret UCVs

DDS involved in skirmish with 7 Sa Sao

Reports are coming in of a skirmish between a DDS ship commanded by General Knobhead and the Argon faction of the 7 Sa Sao. Two DDS crew members are reported to have been injured and 2 Ferret UCVs destroyed in the action. It is reported the DDS were trying to rendezvous with an Argon defector but he was caught and killed before he could reach safety.

The Orchid is understood to be furious and has recalled Knobhead to GHQ.

HCSAF looking into light fighter

Much of the Clone Star Empire is, to be honest, fairly unimportant. These worlds are known as "secondary planets" in the empire, they do not have the mineral wealth of say Lomar or the strategic importance of a Randalf 74 but they are planets in the empire and thus need defending.

Usually air defence is handled by a few squadrons of F-40s however now the HCSAF is considering a small cheap light fighter to protect the airspace over these planets. The rationale being that these planets tend to be protected by older F-40s which are more expensive to run and a single engined light fighter would yield considerable running cost savings.

The state military aircraft manufacturer CAC has been tasked with designing a light fighter, probably to be known as the F-47, which will be designed for these secondary planets and be cheap to buy and run (though will still be a decent warplane). A finalised design specification could be presented by the Summer. The HCSAF aims to buy 1000 of these aircraft to replace the oldest F-40s, this would also enable the forthcoming F-45C purchase to be reduced by 100-150 aircraft. Another considerable cost saving.

Ronald returns to retirement

After having a higher profile over the last few months Senator Ronald has decided to resume his retirement and not continue his role in top-level politics at least for the moment. It is thought he simply is going to wait until he is eligible to stand for Consul again. Under the rules of the Dino Republic he will be eligible again 5 years after the start of his previous term in office, which will mean he can stand for election next year.

Like Windscorpion he is strongly suspected as having a part in Aliowaki's death. He refused to comment on this when ambushed by reporters on his return to Dino-Land.

Windscorpion returns to DDS GHQ

Windscorpion has returned to DDS GHQ after his personal ship SS Stoke City took him from Pulsin in the Dino Republic to Proxima 7. Along the way he was able to link up again with some of the long-term guests aboard his ship. Including one Windy called "The King" whom Windy said he "touched base with".

Windy was asked by reporters if he was involved in the death of Emperor Aliowaki, he said maybe Aliowaki's death was the result of an anxiety. Windy was paraded through GHQ by the Windy Massive who wore pink body stockings to celebrate. Passions did run a little high and it is reported there were 12 assaults and 19 rapes in the parade.

Interestingly DDS Commander The Orchid did not greet Windy but was on Solaris on "urgent business".

Artensis 60 interested in Velocity-E

So far only 1 Velocity-E has been sold, and that ship is currently in pre-delivery trials before it is delivered to Putri 500 in a few months time. Molab have considered the type but are sticking with the Isometric-E as their principle type. This was a great set-back for the Velocity-E programme as Molab was considered the most likely customer.

However now Artensis 60 has expressed an interest in the type. They have Isometric-Es on order amongst other ships but are also looking into buying something bigger to act as their flagship. A Solaris 37C (the DDS version of Velocity-E, more or less) will visit Artensis later this year as part of the "sales pitch".

In other export news an export version of the Olympus 23A support carrier is expected to be launched soon.

First Triona II OPV enters service with HCSN

The first Triona II OPV CSS Admiral Woulan has entered service with the HCS Navy. This is the first of 6 enlarged patrol boats which will supplement the 16 Trionas already in service. The main difference with the new boat is it is bigger. It weights 2500t compared to the older boat's 2000t.

It's weapon fit is much the same as the older boat though the larger size means the ships is less cramped (a major criticism of the Triona is there is too much squeezed into a fairly small hull) and has improved seakeeping abilities. Wheras the older Trionas are used mainly for coastal operations the Triona IIs are likely to be supplementing larger ships in more blue water operations.

DDS hold first test of "Bright Spark" LRM launcher

The DDS have held the first test of a solid fuel rocket called Bright Spark. This will eventually be the first stage of the LRM-20 space missile with a range of 20 light years which the DDS hope to get into service by 2114 (though full operational status with the rocket stage may have to wait until 2116).

Bright Spark is an off-the-shelf rocket bought off a Terran space company and the test was judged successful when a test payload reached LEO over Proxima 5. By buying a proven design the DDS have managed to kick start LRM-20 development which is lagging behind the Clone CSM. This system could enter service by the end of this year.

A parallel project is developing the space stage of the LRM which is a modified MRM with a new engine and improved control systems. The DDS are hoping to have a ground test LRM by the end of the year and if things go smoothly test launch the LRM space stage from a ship next year. Mating the space stage to Bright Spark is scheduled for 2113.

The 100 light year range LRM-100 will be the definitive missile system as silos on Proxima 7, for example, would be able to reach most points in the Clone Space Empire. A LRM-250 model is also projected. Both are not expected until well into the 2120s however.

Panther 2110 Update A

The Panther 35A fleet is to receive an update over the next month as part of the destroyers' normal scheduled refit and maintenance. A major part of the update will be to standardise the fleet as later ships have had improvement such as MRM support which earlier ships lack. The big news however will be the fitting of the new Z6 cannon (which at the moment is only fitted to the latest Solaris 37C destroyer D165 Altair II). The updates include:
  • Z6t cannon
  • DAC (Distributed Adaptive Computing)
  • MRM pylons
  • Offensive info-weapons added to IWC suite
  • iSAS-PAN2 attack system
  • Various other improvements and updates

Clones finalise massive arms deal with Telvin 802 (updated)

The Clones have finalised their biggest arms export deal yet with a huge 8.6 billion zark sale to Telvin 802. The deal includes weapons across all spheres of warfare and includes:
  • T-55ZDM-T tanks (350)
  • TRV-7HD-T IFVs (600)
  • F-45AT fighters (45)
  • A-85NTT COIN attack aircraft (140)
  • TR-72T reconnaissance aircraft (15)
  • AH-26WT helicopters (100)
  • C-440CT transport aircraft (20)
  • Triona naval patrol boats (2)
  • Shark-E space frigates (4)
  • Type A, C and J transports/oilers (5)
The deal was first talked about last year but it has taken a long time to hammer out the details. The Dinos also had to agree to the sale of the tanks as part of their ZDM licence terms, they will receive 190 million zarks of the sale from Telvin.

Jimmy angrily denies Aliowaki assassination

Consul Jimmy has angrily denied the Dinos assassinated former Bolitic Emperor Aliowaki. However the Bolitic have revealed telemetry from what appears to be a Dinomark XT leaving the planet were Aliowaki was killed. The Bolitic have also said analysis of the murder scene showed use of Dino and DDS weapons. As well as Aliowaki his entire staff of 20 Bolitic and his 8 Bolitic bodyguards were killed. Aliowaki himself was beheaded.

New Emperor Borca has blasted the Dinos in a speech to senior officers, "This has all the hallmarks of a killing by Ronald, the vile slug who once was Emperor but now skulks behind the scenes pulling the strings but letting others take the blame."

Borca said he would turn Ronald into a kebab and there were various other insults aimed at Ronald and the Dinos which involved violent sexual imagery, not all of which are biologically possible.

24.2.10

Borca crowned new Bolitic Emperor

With no serious competition Baron Borca has been crowned the new Bolitic Emperor following a meeting of the most powerful Barons. Lord Melson was one who did oppose Borca but his house was much weaker than Borca's and unable to gain support from smaller houses he stood down and gave homage to Borca. Lord Agerna also could not build a strong enough opposing force.

Emperor Borca said he would punish the Dinos for killing Aliowaki, although no one knows for sure who killed him while he was hunting on a remote planet (the Dinos always get the blame anyway). Borca promised blood, treasure and glory to the Bolitic Confederacy.

Zeppelin outlines structure of New DDS Army

At the same media briefing as the Ground Shock 2110 launch the head of the DDS Army Zeppelin outlined changes to the structure of the New DDS Army following a review. Zeppelin said that before you could decide on the structure of an army you had to decide what it was for. The DDS had looked into strategic scenarios and had decided that they should have an army structure that could support major raids, short term territory seizure and rapid reaction.

Its no secret the DDS have been looking closely at the HCS' new light brigades and the DDS have decided to follow suit. The existing 1st Armoured Brigade (Arit) is likely to remain the only "heavy" unit in the army with other units being light brigades.

A provision order of battle for the New DDS Army is:

Central Battlegroup
- 1st Armoured Brigade (Arit)
- 1st Light Brigade (Arit)*
- 2nd Light Brigade (Remedia)
- 3rd Light Brigade (Arit)*
- 5th Light Brigade (Terra)*
- Fire Support Batallion*
- Maritime Support Regiment

Reserve Battlegroup
- 4th Light Brigade (Remedia)*
- 6th Light Brigade (Terra)*

One problem is most of these units (the ones marked with asterisks) do not exist! Though the troops are there, they will be re-organised into these new brigades later this year. Zeppelin is hopeful to be able to deploy the entire Central Battlegroup in Operation Ground Shock 2111!

Operation Ground Shock 2110

The second running of Ground Shock, which the DDS intend to be a yearly amphibious warfare exercise has been set to start next week. Zeppelin, the head of the New DDS Army, will take charge of the exercise which will run for a number of weeks and include several landings of troops with exercises involving the 1st DDS Armoured Brigade (Arit) and Prowler special forces. Dino troops will also take part at some stage.

The ships that will take part are:

L111 Pangaea (flag)
L112 Gondwana
L113 Laurentia
L151 Oceania II
R106 Bowman
F101 Cambrian
F103 Carboniferous
F146 Bohol Sea
A102 Skytrain
A110 Condor
A153 Butane

Some Falcons and Romes will also join the fleet at a later stage.

Nybble is operational

The HCS Space Navy have declared the Nybble unmanned space vehicle operational and that 10 Phase 1 Nybbles will be built this year (or rather 8 more to add to the 2 already in service). Nybble Phase 1 is an unarmed reconnaissance drone able to reach 400c. An armed Phase 2 that can reach 500c is planned for next year. Projected versions could reach 900c.

The Nybbles will be used for tactical reconnaissance and supporting manned assets. Shark frigates are understood to be used as their motherships with the Nybble being able to dock on the Shark's gondola.

The Orchid cool on Sirikwan-Dino alliance

The Orchid says she is unconcerned by the tie-up between the Dinos and Sirikwanese announced yesterday. "Sirikwan is a tier 2 ally thus their military is not part of the greater DDS. Any moves to improve the Sirikwan military can only be good for the DDS in joint operations."

One problem however are the TPM-1s which Sirikwan will operate on their Pentekonter-E patrol ships. The missiles are already carefully monitored by an in-situ DDS team and this may now be strengthened with a DDS presence on Sirikwan ships that deploy the missile and the missiles to be stored off-ship in a DDS administered storage facility.

Dinos and Sirikwanese form military alliance

Consul Jimmy has visited Sirikwan to meet the Sirikwanese President Del'Reka and the two Saurian states have agreed to form a military alliance. Del'Reka was at pains to point out that this did not mean Sirikwan was leaving the DDS but that an alliance with the Dinos would operate in parallel with the DDS. "The Dinos and the DDS are allies and it makes sense for us to be allies with both." he said.

What the alliance actually means is not known yet. Sirikwan is already the home of a Dino orbital refueling point and the Sirikwanese are already buyers of Dino weapons including 6 Dinomark XTs on order. Sirikwanese sources indicate that Sirikwan may re-organise it's army along Dino lines to form a fully interoperable legion that can fight alongside the Dinos. The Dinos may build a base on Sirikwan similar to their's on Loeuss.

As the Sirikwanese are Tier 2 allies of the DDS the DDS are wary of a closer alliance with the Dinos especially as Sirikwan recently took delivery of it's first Pentekonter-E equipped with TPM-1 missiles. The DDS will seek tighter control of the weapons to stop any details falling into Dino hands.

DDS to send F-10As to Loeuss and Remedia

Two 6 aircraft strong flights of F-10A fighters are to be sent to Loeuss and Remedia Prime over the next few weeks. They will be fitted with TPM-A and will perform LO attack missions over the main DDS base on Loeuss and the capital on Remedia. Similar air patrols are maintained over DDS GHQ, Hexian City on Proxima 7 and the DDS Engineering HQ on Solaris though these have all now moved onto the F-10SIM.

A TPM-G ground based battery will also be installed on Remedia Prime. The DDS have developed an easily transportable 6-cell launcher and are aiming to ramp up production of these for siting at strategic locations across the DDS. The TPM-G can attack targets in low orbit forcing space ships engaged in ground bombardment to operate in high orbits which reduces the accuracy and power of their weapons.

LLAD Prototype 2 begins flight testing

The second prototype of the DDS Long Loiter Attack Drone (LLAD) has begun flight testing. The impressive subsonic attack drone is now in it's production configuration with a full range of sensors and will be tested on 10 hour plus flights.

Weapon integration is likely to begin in the Summer. The DDS is hoping the LLAD, which will be known as MQ-14 in service, will be a key part of their air force from 2111.

Velocity ILU pushed to next year

The Velocity ILU, also known as Type 37 Unification, has been scheduled for next year by the DDS Commander. The Orchid said that there were not sufficient funds to carry out the ILU this year because of on-going upgrades to other types and new construction.

The ILU will unify the Type 37A and B to a similar standard to the Solaris 37C destroyers. This new Velocity 37D standard will have an improved engine, Z6 cannon, TPM-2 launcher and a number of other improvements.

7SS (Argon) ship spotted near DDS space?

A ship which corresponds to a cruiser operated by the Argon faction of the 7 Sa Sao has been spotted near to Palau in DDS South by a Dino freighter. The DDS were informed of the sighting and General Knobhead is said to have headed to the area himself in his personal ship.

Its the first time the Argon have been spotted by the DDS for some time though they are still considered a threat. The Xenon faction have been very quiet since their defeat at the hands of Oojok. Current intelligence indicates the Xenon are a very minor faction in the 7 Sa Sao though Argon is reputedly the most powerful and largest of the 7 factions. There is much the DDS do not know about them however.

Ronald turns up on Pulsin with Windscorpion?

Ronald's personal ship Dinomark has been seen at Pulsin Central Spaceport. Ronald visited Governor MBH to indulge in some mutual loathing and cutting witticisms. There are unconfirmed reports that Windscorpion was a passenger on Dinomark.

He has been seen in the Pulsin capital, several young men were also reported to be arriving in hospitals across the capital, reduced to broken bleeding pieces of meat.

2nd Minesweeping flotilla sent to Mila

The 2nd Minesweeping flotilla has been dispatched to Mila in the Remedian Belt to begin mine clearance in the region of space where a Panther destroyer was hit by a mine and seriously damaged. The flotilla will remain in the region for at least 3 months to carry out a "thorough cleansing of Remedian space".

A spokeswoman said that such a long deployment was a serious investment in time and money but it was necessary to de-risk the region once and for all.

As for D101 Panther it has now been reached by an Extender oiler and is being taken on tow to Mila for repairs to it's main power.

The Orchid confirms Windy as Protector

Windscorpion's return from self-imposed exile and his announcement he would be DDS Protector again appears to have taken everyone by surprise including The Orchid, the DDS Commander! The Orchid has however endorsed Windy as DDS Protector, it would be too awkward to do otherwise considering the strength of the Windy Massive power bloc.

The Orchid will be careful to give Windy space in his role but it is also likely she will want to avoid Rotarios' mistake in allowing Windy too much leeway which ultimately eroded Rotarios' power base too much to allow Windy to usurp him. Whatever happens the next few months will be very interesting in DDS politics!

20.2.10

DDS ship hit by mine near Mila

Panther destroyer D101 Panther has been hit by a Utrekian mine whilst travelling to Mila in the Remedian Belt. The cloaked mine detonated near to the destroyer whilst it was travelling at superluminal speed. Most damage occurred when the hyperspace bubble collapsed forcing an emergency decleration.

Several crew sustained injuries though none are fatal. The ship suffered damage to it's main reactor array and is currently waiting for the arrival of an Extender in order to perform repairs to enable the ship to travel at superluminal speeds again. Full repairs will be undertaken at Mila.

A DDS spokesman said many mines had been cleared but some still remained away from shipping lanes. Panther had been doing so after making a diversion to an asteroid to perform some weapons practice the day before. The DDS have now ordered all ships stay on cleared shipping lanes in that area of Remedian space.

19.2.10

Captain Clone to visit Lornaca Melnig next week

Captain Clone is to finally visit Lornaca Melnig following the "pacification" of insurgents following a recent upsurge in violence. Zone troops massacred several villages and took a few hundred young men as prisoners. After days of sustained sexual violence it is thought the young men no longer wish to fight the HCS.

Captain Clone is said to be looking forward to visiting the "latest jewel" in the Clone Star Empire.

Windy breaks his silence... and is coming back

Windscorpion has addressed the DDS for the first time since his shock retirement. He did not reveal where he was when he spoke to DDS breakfast TV but he appeared to be aboard some kind of ship. He said he was returning to the DDS and would resume his old role as DDS Protector.

Windy said he would respect the rule of The Orchid but that he was an "off-message kinda guy". The Windy Massive responded to the news with an outpouring of joy. Unfortunately their joy co-incided with a visit to DDS GHQ by some college boys. The boys are now undergoing emergency surgery.

Borca stakes claim for Bolitic crown

Borca has stepped from the shadows of his former Lord and now has staked a claim for the ultimate prize. Borca was a rather obscure soldier in Aliowaki's imperial house but because he ran the house, the strongest of the Bolitic houses, whilst his master was busy running the empire he has managed to build a very solid powerbase which he is now using to strengthen his claim to the crown now he has taken over the old imperial house and named it the House of Borca.

Lord Agerna is also thought to want the crown but the House of Agerna is much weaker than Borca's so Agerna will need to find allies if he wants to challenge Borca.

Initiative #25 : Ship Building Plan 2110/11

The Orchid in the last of her 25 daily initiatives has outlined a provisional ship building plan for April 2110 up to the end of March 2111. The plan is huge with 22 new ships to be built in the 12 months though controversially transport types will feature little in the plan to allow the DDS' shipyards to concentrate on combat ships. Three new ship classes will also make their debut. The plan :
  • 2 Missileer 21B (completing the class)
  • 1 Olympus 23A (first of class)
  • 3 Panther 35A (completing the class)
  • 2 Solaris 37C
  • 2 Freedom 41B (first of class, built by Raegris)
  • 4 Falcon 47A (built by Dinos)
  • 2 Pangaea 62A (part-built by Clones)
  • 3 Oceania 63A (part-built by commercial partner)
  • 1 Tethys Ocean 65A (first of class)
  • 1 Extender 73A
  • 1 Marconi 81A (completing the class)
The plan entails building 3 carriers, 5 destroyers, 6 frigates/patrol ships, 6 amphibious warfare ships, 1 oiler and 1 electronic warfare ship.

Notable by it's absence in the plan is the resumed production of the Rome corvette. These have now been put back until late 2111. The SOT is also delayed until the completion of the Isometric ILU which will be completed by the end of 2110 though SOT production will not resume immediately due to budget pressures.

18.2.10

Emperor Aliowaki killed?

There are rumours coming in that Emperor Aliowaki of the Bolitic Confederacy has been killed while hunting on a remote Bolitic world. A Bolitic source says that Aliowaki and his hunting party were wiped out by an unknown assailant. The major Bolitic houses are already preparing for the inevitable war of succession.

Update : the Bolitic Imperial News Service has confirmed the death of Aliowaki, it claims he was murdered by foreign enemies of the Bolitic who will be "crushed like bugs".  Two Snarl battlecruisers fought near Castarian though neither is from the house of Borca. He was Aliowaki's deputy in the House of Aliowaki and has now taken over the former imperial house (presumably by either killing his rivals or kidnapping their children), as his forces are very strong he has a good chance of becoming the new Emperor.

Straw People to end this weekend

The Straw People deployment based around Charlotte in the Rim Worlds is to end at the weekend. The deployment, which began in early January, was intended to last at least 3 months but was instigated under the interim rule of Sea Urchin and The Orchid has decided the deployment does not tally with her plans.

With the Early Warning deployment plus Force Voth and the Remedian fleet the available fleet assets for further deployments is rather small. The Orchid wants a large amphibious exercise in a few weeks and after that a 2110 running of the Atomic Fist strategic attack exercise which this year will include Quasars and MRMs. Another problem with Straw People was that the planned interoperability exercises with the Aritans and Porquatians never materialised.

Fleet News (18/02/10)

Three more ships have been added to the fleet. D165 Altair II is the latest Solaris 37C class destroyer. It has joined DDS South though will be available for general deployments. F110 Miocene has completed it's Isometric 41A ILU, F115 Cainozoic has taken it's place on the production jig.

The first Oceania 63A landing ship, a modified SX-98 transport, L151 Oceania II has entered service following extended new-type trials. The Oceania class will re-use names from the Pulsar class cruisers which are now being withdrawn. The first ship is expected to take part in the forthcoming amphibious exercise.

Finally A228 Rio Grande is the latest River 75B utility transport.

Initiative #24 : MAV development project

The Orchid has awarded a 11 million zark contract to a Solaris technology company to develop a range of Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) for the DDS. These will be used for surveilance, battle field spotting and covert strike. One type Aerodyne Inc. have already developed is the size and shape of a dragonfly but has EO and IR sensors with a range of up to 5km.

The MAV has been used by UNP anti-terrorist troops for investigating a room before entering it. It is expected the Prowler units will also begin using the MAV. Another MAV under development is also "bug" sized and is the shape of a beetle. It is designed for reconnaissance and also attack. In a demonstration a beetle spiked the water supply in an insurgent base with a sleep drug which allowed the special forces team to easily pacify them without risk.

Initiative #23 : IWC2 chosen as standard DDS personal infantry weapon

The Orchid has announced that the IWC2 has been chosen as the new standard personal infantry weapon for the New DDS Army. The IWC2, an updated version of the IWC which was first developed during the Clone Wars, will replace the mixture of weapons currently in use. The IWC2 will be built at 3 factories, on Proxima 7 and New Arit.

The rifle is considered roughly comparable to late AR-100s in use by the HCS. 250,000 have been ordered and deliveries will begin next month.

DDS to test out their amphibious capabilities next month

The fast growing amphibious warfare capabilities of the DDS are to be tested next month with a major training exercise featuring the 1st Amphibious Flotilla. The deployment will test the landing of troops, interoperability with special forces, holding territory and providing fire support from orbit.

It is expected the first Oceania 63A landing ship will be ready for the deployment and will join a couple of Pangaea 62As with fire support provided by Pulsars and Romes. The full line-up of ships will be announced closer to the time of the exercise. The Aritans and Sirikwanese will provide troops.

Initiative #22 : Temporary Battlefield Satellite Communications

The DDS have developed a cheap and "disposable" low-orbit satellite for battlefield communications. Until now ships in orbit have provided communications for ground forces but this is wasteful in terms of ship deployment. Under a new scheme an array of satellites will be deployed over a battlezone to provide secure high bandwidth communications and targeting information.

The satellites will be built on demand by a custom built automated fabrication facility which will be carried by an Extender or Provider transport and is around the size of a standard cargo container. The facility will be able to produce a new satellite in minutes and they will have an estimated life-span of 6 months. Following use existing satellites will be "recycled".

In the test 2 Ferrets were launched from a Pulsar cruiser in low orbit armed with training bombs. They entered the atmosphere and successfully flew to and dropped bombs on a target on the surface before returning to the mothership.

One problem the DDS have is that Ferret-G development has moved faster than the development of it's intended munitions. A new stand-off air-ground attack missile is still in development but is not expected this year. The DDS are looking into procuring off the shelf missiles from a Raegris company.

    Pulsar 2110 Update A

The Pulsar 12A fleet is to receive an upgrade over the next few weeks. It will be their final upgrade as withdrawals will start this year (indeed the 2 ships due to be withdrawn this year will not be upgraded) though software-only updates are likely to continue until the end of service in 2112.

Pulsar 2110 Update A includes the following improvements and will take around 3 days to complete per ship (it will be carried out during normal maitanence cycles):
    • Z5g-EA (see separate article for details)
    • IWC will be upgraded to allow for offensive cyber attack capabilities (this also implies that the Quasar update that is on-going will also add offensive cyber attack to it's IWC, the DDS did not want to say earlier!)
    • Damage control facilties in key parts of the ship will be improved
    • The main computer will be upgraded with a new faster processor unit
    • The engines will be recored to take them up to end of service
    • A number of other minor improvements

    Z5g to be upgraded

The ground attack optimised Z5g which is carried by Pulsar attack cruisers and Rome corvettes in attack mode is to be improved. Z5g-EA (Enhanced Attack) will be rolled out to all installations over the next few weeks. It includes enhanced energy burst performance (i.e. a bigger bang) and improved rate of fire. Accuracy will also be improved with a new targeting computer build.

The Orchid wants the DDS' ground attack capabilities improved dramatically. One idea DDS Research have come up with is a ground attack rig. This would be an automated module including 3 Z5g-EAs and the relevant power and control systems. It would be towed by another ship over the target area. This could be carried to the battle zone aboard a Provider transport.

Initiative #21 : Patrol boats for Maritime Support Regiment

The DDS Army's Maritime Support Regiment will receive 8 new Atlantic class patrol boats designed and built by a Proxima 5 company. The boats will be used for offshore and inland waters operations and will be armed with a 20mm cannon and a VLS firing dual purpose missiles.

The Orchid said that the DDS are looking into building a blue water navy at a later stage but at the moment will restrict themselves to mainly the inland waters environment to support land operations.

Captain Clone visit to Lornaca Melnig delayed

Captain Clone's planned trip to Lornaca Melnig has been delayed by an upsurge in insurgent activities. He is still likely to visit some time this month however once extra security forces have been put in place. A Zone light brigade has begun a sweep of the area near the capital insurgents are known to use as a base.

20 extra A-85 COIN aircraft have also arrived on the planet to support those already engaged in operations.

    ABBO ship seen near Liberation

An ABBO scout ship has been spotted near Liberation by a DDS freighter. The Provider transport immediately reported the ABBO ship to Liberation Orbital Control who despatched a frigate to investigate. The ABBO ship came closer to the Provider which armed it's Canister TPM and may have scanned the transport but it left by the time the frigate arrived an hour later.

The Orchid has said that only armed DDS ships will now be allowed in DDS South because of the raised ABBO threat. The remaining transports in the DDS fleet without Canister TPM will be fitted out with the self-defence weapon by the end of the month. Transports will also begin to carry 3 TPMs once stocks are raised of the modified missile.

Initiative #20 : Formation of Amphibious Command

The Orchid has re-organised the DDS' fast growing amphibious warfare resources into Amphibious Command. The Command will consist of 3 amphibious flotillas, 1 of which will be always on a 12 hour standby, 1 of the others of a 3 day standby and the other on a week standby. It is likely the flotillas will be shared between Proxima 7, Solaris and Liberation.

A flotilla will be based around a Pangaea 62A ship which will be the command ship and include Oceania 63A ships and Falcon 47A ships too and other transports and later on Tethys Ocean 65A support carriers. The DDS is likely to test out this new flotilla structure with an amphibious exercise soon.

    HCS Fleet News (13/02/10)

As stated earlier the 38th and final Intruder amphibious landing ship has been completed. However a source yesterday has indicated the HCS may re-open production at a later date though this is likely to be after the orders for combat warships have been satisfied.

The first of the 2 ex-Utrek Molentic Tuuls has been localised and upgraded to MTM standard. A 6th Kalahati Tuul has also been restored to service, the ships are now expected to remain in service until 2113. A Type J oiler has left the fleet due to fatigue issues.

The new Kelsan bomber is expected to enter service by the Spring. The first ship in the class is currently on final trials and ships #2 and 3 are about to also enter trials. The HCS are hoping to have their first attack flotilla operational by the end of the year.

Initiative #19 : Greater independence to sector leaders

The Orchid has announced that "sector leaders", in other words the commanders in charge of the major commands of the DDS like DDS North, DDS Central, DDS Engineering et cetera will have greater independence in terms of their budgets and operational control.

"We want a more de-centralised and agile DDS." she told reporters, "We will replace iron control with an effective monitoring and feedback system with a clear objective path."

Dinos to deploy extra legions to Pulsin and Xi

The 3rd Legion is to redeploy to Pulsin (though some SS troops will be returning to Dino-Land) and the 19th Legion is to redeploy to Xi Consul Jimmy has announced. The Dinos are seeking to bolster their two "frontier" worlds which would be where fighting would most likely occur should the Dinos be attacked by the Bolitic or the ABBOs.

Jimmy denied that the Dinos had intelligence about an impending attack but said that recent ABBO activity in Bolitic space indicated a "rising risk".

Safety checks for all ships ordered

The Orchid has ordered that all DDS ships should be checked to see if their cooling systems and power junctions are safe in the wake of the Yeoman explosion. Checks will start with SUP based ships but will also include all other classes because often the same components are reused on different ship classes.

"Safety of staff is paramount." The Orchid said and she said she would be consulting with DDS Engineering tomorrow to see what could be done to avoid this kind of incident in future.

    Update on Yeoman accident

The explosion that killed 4 crewmen on the Missileer 21A carrier R108 Yeoman was caused by a failed coolent fan that allowed heat to build up in a key power junction. DDS Engineering say that the accident could happen again because of a flaw in the power junction design and are now urgently looking into redesigning the power junction.

Until then engineering crews have been instructed to install extra heat monitors and to prioritise maitenance and monitoring of cooling systems.

Initiative #18 : Published update schedule

The Orchid has announced that in future the update schedule for warships will be published and available in the public domain. Up until now the update schedule is rather vague and kept a secret, commentators having to guess when an ILU or MULE is due.

"The DDS is about openness and knowledge as knowledge is empowering." she said at a visit to DDS Engineering. She did not say exactly when the update list would be published.

    11.2.10

    First Dinomark MX enters service

The first new generation transport Dinomark, the MX, has entered service. The MX is roughly 4 times the size of an XT and indeed in some ways is a scaled up XT though with 2 engines.

25 MXs are on order, the Dinos have ordered at least 6 for the first year. They fill an important gap between existing Dinomarks and larger transports like the Provider-EDA and SX-98.

    Explosion on Missileer kills 4

There has been an explosion on the Missileer 21B carrier R108 Yeoman which killed 3 crew outright and a 4th died afterwards. The ship, which was in orbit around Terra, was taken out of service immediately after the explosion in it's weapons bay. At first it was feared a TPM-2 had exploded because the epicentre was near one of the launchers but later analysis showed that the explosion was caused by an overheating power junction. Indeed the TPM-2s did not explode despite the force and heat of the initial explosion, a testament to work done on the missile to prevent these kinds of chain reactions as otherwise the ship could have been destroyed.

All Missileers are now being checked to make sure power junctions are OK. A DDS Engineering team is currently on the Yeoman seeing if the overheating was caused by a design flaw or a failure.

Intruder fleet completed but future amphibious plans for the HCS

After 38 examples the HCS have built their final Intruder landing ship they claim, though the design does live on with the licence-built Pangaea for the DDS of course. The highly useful ships form a powerful amphibious warfare fleet with the 7 Tiamon support carriers though it is thought the HCS Space Navy are looking at a new kind of transport ship to supplement them.

Although the Clones have excellent day 1 landing facilities where they are lacking is in ships to bolster the initial landing force. Further forces are bought in using traditional transport ships like the Type B and C which can carry a lot of troops and cargo but are awkward to unload. The Clones are now looking into an assault transport based on the Type C with much improved docking facilities.

    More F-45C details revealed

With the early flight testing of the F-45C now on  the F-45C is being prepared for a "rigorous" flight test programme of the "full-spec" aeroplane. HCS officials discussed the new plane, which will be the backbone of HCS airpower until the 2130s at a media briefing today.

The F-45C will have a mission adaptive wing, which means the shape of the wing can be adjusted depending on the mission. The HCS did not say how much it could adapt though. As well as helmet mounting sights the interior of the cockpit will be used to give the pilot an augmented view of the battle situation using a holographic projector.

The F-45C is due to enter service in 2114.

    Initiative #17 : Upgrades for earlier F-10S

The first batch of F-10S Shark 2100 fighters will be upgraded to the SEP standard which is the standard of the third batch which will begin construction later this year. The modified F-10S will have the wing and other aerodynamic improvements, the new databus and IR emission reduction.

The second batch, the F-10SIM will also be upgraded at a later date, probably when there are enough new build SEPs to allow for the planes to be taken out of service.

LPG accepts new role as Director of Campus Services

When The Orchid assembled her staff one name most noticable by it's absense was LPG, thought to be a loyalist to Orchidism despite being a blood relation of Windscorpion. LPG has now accepted a post as Director of Campus Services. He will be responsible for various base operations though interestingly will be subordinate to Redjec the City Commander.

LPG has been seen with the Hoods lately and it is thought he has taken charge of them to act as a fascist vanguard for the new regime. Although LPG seems lower than Redjec sources say that his power behind the scenes is likely to be equal to Action Painting, the Deputy Commander.

2 DDS crewmen killed in training accident

Two DDS crewmen of the oiler A147 Trident have been killed in a training accident. The ship, part of the Early Warning deployment, was acting as an "enemy" ship in a mock combat with the destroyer D164 Polaris II. However the Solaris' lasers had not been set to "training" mode (which means just light and no destructive energy) so when Trident was hit by the laser beam it caused real damage.

Trident lost main power and 2 crewmen were killed when a power junction they were near exploded. Repairs to Trident are now being carried out, the damage is said to be "moderate". The weapons officer of the Solaris has been relieved of command and will be picked up by SS Stoke City for taking back to GHQ for analysis of his actions.

Director of Operations Action Painting has said that training procedures will be looked at to prevent such a mistake happening again.

Initiative #16 : Object Blue Gamma

The Orchid has announced funding for a new phase in DDS Research's superluminal UCV development work. Object Blue A was a major project carried out last year that included operating the research ship SS Isometric unmanned.

In a new 9 million zark contract SS Isometric will again be modified for unmanned operation in a new series of tests called Object Blue Gamma. This will build on the earlier work and look into automated repair and maintenance systems as well as continuing the work on unmanned superluminal operation and integration with manned assets.

    Dr Forbidden revises worm-drive timetable

Dr Forbidden gave a media briefing at DDS Research before a closed-doors conference on worm-drive technology. The conference will bring together the great DDS minds working on various projects under the worm-drive mega-project umbrella to report on progress. And that progress appears to be pretty good.

Dr Forbidden has bought forward his estimate as to when the DDS can begin to test worm-drive on an unmanned ship to 2115 with a possible man-rated drive "by 2118". This is 2-3 years faster than previously stated. "We have made some important breakthroughs recently with a successful series of lab tests. We are also setting our sites on a 3000c drive which will be easier to achieve on the first stage compared to the Dinos 5000c one as it will not have to dive  as deeply through space-time."

He also said that worm-drive technology was already affecting future DDS ship design. "Corkscrew will be designed with a traditional drive speed of 800c. As worm-drive will be added to it within a couple of years we will take the short term hit of lower speed in return for not saddling the ship with all the extra mass and structural strength needed for speeds in the 900-1000c range."

Admiral Anderson returns to the fold

Admiral Anderson, who has been given a series of meaningless jobs at HCS GHQ since his return to the Clone Star Empire has finally been given a "proper" job by Captain Clone. The leader of CSE-W is about to visit Lornaca Melnig for the first time and he will install Anderson as the planet's first Governor as a CSE world.

The choice of Anderson is an eye-brow raiser as Anderson does not have much of a reputation, apart from being an idiot. Though he has done well in the admin jobs given to him recently. His greatest asset is that he is loyal to the Captain who is feeling the pressure from his enemies in the HCS and the CSE-W.

    DDS order helicopters

The DDS have ordered 30 Rotordyne Axis III helicopters which will perform the training and liaison role. In DDS service they will be known as the HH-30 Axis III. They have also ordered 6 Rotordyne Helix 200 helicopters for VIP work, these will be known as the VH-35 Helix.

The DDS are trying to diversify it's source of aircraft for it's fast growing air force, up until now the aircraft bought have mostly been from the DDS' own factory or ex-HCSAF designs. The DDS are likely to work with Rotordyne on future helicopter designs including a new attack helicopter.

Initiative #15 : Reinforcement of DDS South

Knobhead has announced he has received an extra 17 million zarks from The Orchid to carry out some immediate improvements to orbital facilities around Liberation and other planets in DDS South. Liberation's main space dock will receive an armament upgrade and a new auxiliary communications node.

A squadron of F-10 fighters armed with TPM-A anti-satellite/space ship missiles will also be deployed to the planet by the early Summer.

    "Three Cs" revisited

Back in 2108 the DDS unveiled it's plans for future warships which was quickly called the "Three Cs" by the media as the 3 ship project names all started with C. Now 2 years on the projects have been revised by the DDS and a report was made on the current status of each project at a media briefing at DDS Research by Dr Forbidden.
    • Chrysalis - the future cruiser project has changed quite dramatically over the last 2 years. What began a Pulsar replacement became a developed Missileer but now the project is back to being a pure cruiser. The latest designs are said to show a lot of influence from the Panther design though this is unconfirmed. The DDS are aiming to issue a specification later this year. Entry into service is planned for the late 2110s.
    • Corkscrew - the future frigate project is the most well-known of the 3 projects and recently was bought forward a few years with the mid-part of this decade being the target date for the Corkscrew to enter service. The Rome platform has been chosen as the basis for Corkscrew. Specifications will be finalised this year with a design lock-down planned for 2113. Service date is "around 2115".
    • Crankcase - the future light patrol project is the least important of the 3 because of changes to the DDS fleet over the last couple of years and the disappearance of the Pentekonter from the patrol role which Crankcase was supposed to replace! Crankcase is now going to look at Rome replacements in the 2120s.
However at the end of his briefing Dr Forbidden surprised reporters by unveiling a "4th C"!  "Cordial" will look to replace the SUP in the 2130s. Now as the SUP is the basis of much of the fleet ranging from the Missileer, to the Tethys Ocean to the Provider and Extender Cordial is potentially the biggest and most important project of all.

    Special Operations Corils receive update

The 4 Coril 86A shuttles used by DDS Special Forces have received an update and full engineering check over the last few weeks. Provision for Canister TPM has now been fitted to the ships and the communications equipment has been upgraded.

The ships have been fully checked by DDS Engineering and have now been cleared for use up to 2123 having been found to be in better mechanical condition than previously thought and will be able to receive a life extension later in this decade. Docking facilities will also be updated at a later stage and brig facilities added to help with the safe transport of prisoners.

ABBO transmitter discovered on Rim World

DDS special forces have located and destroyed what appears to have been an ABBO communications relay station on an unpopulated planet in the Rim Worlds. The station was transmitting a carrier wave signal into the Clone Star Empire however easily had the range to transmit into key areas of the DDS.

Recent intelligence reports of ABBO ships being seen in Bolitic space and ABBO activity in DDS South space has risen the ABBOs up the DDS' list of threats to higher than the Welsh Space Empire.

    Initiative #14 : Commercial Activities

The Orchid has said that the DDS cannot rely alone on UNP funding and will need to find more and more money itself if it expects to expand and develop as planned. The Orchid cited a prime example the joint company with the Raegris to sell export versions of DDS warships which yielded well over a billion zarks to DDS funds last year.

At a joint media briefing with Finance Officer The Shiner The Orchid outlined some other areas of commercial revenue opportunity including weather reporting and communications which can piggyback on existing DDS infrastructure. "We produce weather data anyway for the DDS so why not sell a version of this data for commercial and civil use too? Our data network typically runs at 30-40% capacity in peace time so there is opportunity there to sell the spare bandwidth."

The Orchid has set a target of 500 million zarks a year revenue from commercial opportunities (not including exports) by 2112.

Experiment 96X research ships to enter service

The DDS has said that 2 ex-Utrek Kalahati Tuul ships will be named the Experiment 96X class and will enter service in a few weeks following some refurbishment and re-engining with the same Heldris Hemtar nuclear/ion drive as fitted to Remedian KT2s.

The 2 Experiment class ships will help reduce the load on Isometric and lessen the need to use the Departmental Starsystem class ships for research or trials work. They will also be available for "aggressor" style training. DDS Engineering have carried out a full check of the ships and say that they should be good for 10 years with a "moderate" workload.

    Oceania 63A begins final trials

The first SX-98 landing ship in DDS service, known as the Oceania 63A class, has begun final proving trials and is expected to be ready to join the DDS' amphibious warfare squadron by the middle of the month.

10 Oceanias are on order though only the first 4 are confirmed. It is likely the DDS will buy the class over an extended period to save money. The Oceanias will recycle names from the Pulsar class cruisers that are now being withdrawn.

The Oceanias are built by Consolidated-ETA Spacecraft and then finished off by the DDS adding military specific equipment. It is understood that the Oceanias will be equipped with Canister TPM and a self-defence laser cannon.

    HCS begin A-85QEA development

With the A-85NT now in production the HCSAF have begun development of the next version of it's main COIN aircraft (which is the most numerous aircraft in HCSAF service and certainly the one that sees the most action). The next version of the aircraft will be known as the A-85QEA (Quiet Enhanced Attack) and could enter service late in this decade.

Key to the QEA will be quietness, it will be a fully electric aircraft fuelled by energy cells. The HCSAF say that replacing the existing engine with an electric motor will reduce noise emissions by 70% and IR emissions by 80%. A new propeller and aerodynamic changes will reduce noise still further. The airframe will also be modified to reduce the radar cross section.

A development aircraft to prove the all-electric concept is due to fly "by 2114".

    Ferret-G2 details revealed

The DDS have revealed details of the next version of their Ferret UCV that is currently under development and is hoped to enter production before the end of the year. The G2 will have an uprated engine, vector thrust and improved control systems. It will be more agile than the existing G model that is now entering service.

The DDS also said work on the superluminal version, the Ferret-X is continuing with a prototype due to enter testing this year. They also revealed the DDS are looking at a longer-ranged reconnaissance only drone, named Ferret-R, though this remains at the conceptual stage for now.

    Initiative #13 : Personal Development

The Orchid has announced that DDS staff will be encouraged to take personal development classes. "DDS staff are on a journey, a journey of holistic self-actualisation!" she said at a media briefing. Classes staff will be strongly encouraged to attend will be diversity awareness, manual handling and personal time management.

The latter is very strongly encouraged. The Orchid believes very strongly in arriving on time and is understood to have been annoyed by some of the lateness of senior DDS officers to some meetings.

    6.2.10

Initiative #12 : Deep Space Intelligence Probe

The DDS has issued a 42 million zark contract to build 6 Deep Space Intelligence Probes which will be located at secret places around the DDS. These unmanned stations will include very sensitive passive sensors ranging from Elint/Siginit sensors to shorter range EO sensors. The probes will continually transmit raw data to the nearest DDS planetary base for processing and analysis.

AI routines will be used on a first pass to quickly detect possible enemy action or activity. Analysis teams from the new Intelligence Office will then conduct deeper searches of the available data.

Emergency Get Home Mode being developed for DDS warships

DDS Research's UCV project has an interesting off-shoot which could be coming to manned DDS warships soon, an "Emergency Get Home Mode". This automated system would kick in if a ship's bridge crew was incapacitated and would take over operation of the ship and aim to get the ship out of a hazardous situation and into safety.

The system, which has not been named officially yet, is understood to have been trialed in a Panther 35A destroyer over the last few months and may be fitted to new Panthers and other ships this year prior to a general roll out to the fleet during upgrades. How the system works is being kept a secret by the DDS but there is speculation that the life signs of bridge crew are monitored by the system and if those life signs fade (because of death or unconsciousness) then the system will take over.

Some officers have said that they fear the mode kicking in too early during a battle which could put the ship at greater risk but DDS Research say they do not think this can happen.

Initiative #11 : New DDS Light Tank competition

The DDS have issued a specification for a light tank, called New DDS Light Tank (NDLT) at the moment (hopefully a more imaginative name will be thought up later on). Three arms manufacturers including an Aritan company are likely to submit designs.

The NDLT will be an easily transportable armoured vehicle able to offer fire support and reconnaissance duties. Bids are not expected to be returned until late in the year.

    4.2.10

The Orchid offers olive branch to Knobhead

Since his defeat in the DDS Commander election Knobhead has kept a low profile, getting on with his job as head of DDS South. There was speculation that maybe The Orchid would move Knobhead on or even demote him. However the two met earlier today as The Orchid visited Liberation and at a joint press conference the relationship between the two, which had deteriorated badly during the campaign, seemed to be amicable.

The Orchid announced that she had instructed Knobhead to conduct a review of DDS South and it is likely his command would be getting more ships and one of the heavy brigades in the New DDS Army.

25 SPECNES-SH ordered for next generation minesweeper fleet

Following successful trials of SPECNES-SH aboard a Shark frigate the HCS Space Navy has ordered 25 sets of the minesweeping suite (or rather 24 more). The HCS are thought to want to maintain a force of 20 minesweeping equipped Sharks with the rest of the suites in storage. These Sharks would be also available for other duties but their prime role would be mine counter measures.

28 Sharks are currently in service with 12 more on order. The last 12 Derinny class minesweepers are now in reserve, only a couple are considered safe enough to use. They will all be replaced by the end of the year though it is thought the HCS will only be able to make 1 flotilla (which is 5 ships) operational by the end of the year.

    Initiative #10 : ICT reorganisation

The Orchid has announced that centralised ICT systems in the DDS will be reorganised and rationalised around a new DDS Intranet. Over the years a number of separate systems have been developed including DDS Engineering's Data.Net and DDS Communication's ComNET.

The Orchid has ordered the formation of a new DDS ICT Division and combine the various computing, network, information and communications efforts across the DDS in this new division. This will simplify and rationalise DDS computing and in the long run save a lot of money.

    3.2.10

    First Ferret-Gs enter service

The first 10 Ferret-G UCVs have entered service with the DDS. This second generation drone can also operate in atmospheres and thus will also be considered DDS Air Force assets (though will be operated and maintained by the space fleet). 450 Ferret-Gs in total are on order though the order will be carried out in batches. It is expected to deliver no more than 50 this year.

Existing Ferret-Es (the DDS have over 200) will be converted to G standard at a later stage.

    First C-426 delivered

The first of the new standard light transport for the HCSAF, the C-426, has been delivered to the HCSAF's development squadron ahead of an expected entry into service in the Summer. The C-426 is a twin-engined light aircraft based on a civilian design able to carry up to 8 people. It will be used in the liaison, communications and utility roles.

A tanker version, the KC-426, is currently under test. It will be used to refuel the A-85NTLR though this version of the standard COIN aircraft may be delayed due to budget pressures.

Aritan to offer KT UCV mothership conversions?

The Aritans are to modify their Kalahati Tuul ships into UCV motherships. They will be able to operate up to 10 Ferrets with basic maintenance facilities. If the conversions are successful then the Aritans are considering offering these conversions to other operators of Ferrets.

However this could annoy the DDS who are planning an export version of their "mini-carrier" the Olympus 23A which is expected to enter service later this year. The Aritans however say they are confident their KT conversions will not cut into the DDS export market. A spokesaritan said "Our conversion is not a carrier like the Missileer or the Olympus but a support ship for small groups of drones. For nations who cannot afford an Olympus maybe they will consider a conversion. For nations that can afford an Olympus maybe they will find our conversion an attractive complement."

Initiative #9 : New Intelligence Office

The DDS are to centralise intelligence gathering in a new Intelligence Office which will be led by Inspector Black Hat. The Office will handle human (or alien) intelligence, elint/sigint and work with DDS Security's counter-intelligence officers.

The Orchid said that intelligence was the key to the future and the DDS needed to bring together it's currently chaotic and ad-hoc approach. Black Hat has been promoted to Inspector-General.

    Other Fleet News (02/02/10)

    Dinos

15 more Dinomark XTs have been removed from the fleet register and placed in the civilian reserve. To compensate Jimmy has agreed to order 3 more Dinomark PTs on top of the existing order. This will keep the production line active for the rest of the year at miminal rate.

    Porquat 640

Porquat have launched the first of their next generation Xian 508 cruisers. The 508 looks very similar to the 505 (which were all destroyed in the P640-DDS/Dinos/HCS war) though has updated systems and weapons. The first 508 is expected in service by the end of the year.

Porquat 640 have taken delivery of their first 15 Ferret-E UCVs. The MQ-5AP is optimised for solo operation and will be mostly used for orbital policing and defence.

    New Arit

The final 2 ex-Utrek Kalahati Tuul cruisers have been refurbished and localised and accepted into service giving a fleet of 10. These ships have been formed into 2 auxiliary & training flotillas. The Aritans are considering using them as UCV motherships in the long run however. The KTs have a lot of internal space and could hold up to 10 Ferrets each.

    Sirikwan

Sirikwan has received the first of 10 Pentekonter-E120 patrol ships which it has on order. The ship is expected to enter service in a few months.

    Initiative #8 : Motivational posters

Motivational posters showing senior DDS personnel such as The Orchid and Redjec exhorting the DDS to greater acts of professionalism have begun to be put up at key locations around the various DDS establishments. General Redjec said, "Sloth will be vanquished by a call to professionalism!"

"Obedience in the law will be encouraged by these posters." Redjec said, "Though if any wish to disagree with that Mr Dump will be happy to have a nice little chat with them."

    Future Basic Trainer bought forward

The Future Basic Trainer T-76 was due to enter service from 2112 to replace the ageing (and hazardous) fleet of T-75s providing basic flying training for the HCSAF. However because the T-75 fleet is decaying at a greater rate than previously expected the T-76 has been bought forward and the aim is now to get the new trainer into service by next year.

The T-76 is based on the A-85NT platform and will be a much more advanced training solution to the rather primitive T-75 including a digital flight recorder for after-flight classroom assessment. One problem the HCSAF has though is money as budgets are currently tight because of the need to boost the space fleet. The HCSAF may pause production of the A-85NT while T-76 starts up. A first flight is expected in the Spring.

DDS to absorb UNP special forces

The DDS has absorbed the UNP's SpecForce, an elite unit specialising in space combat who have in the past been used in counter-terrorism and protection of UNP orbital stations. The 120 man unit (with support staff) has now joined the DDS and their expertise will form 3 space-operation Prowler units.

The DDS are also in talks with the UNP about transferring the UNP's Facilities Command to the DDS. These troops (some 790 in number) are well-trained personnel who protect UNP facilities. The DDS may take over this protection and Facilities Command will also be transferred into the DDS to join DDS Security.

Initiative #7 : Improved long range sensors for Marconi fleet

The Marconi EW / Elint fleet will receive upgrades in their long-range sensors among other updates to improve their intelligence gathering and processing capabilities. The Marconi ships will receive new radio receivers, improved computers and better crew facilities to allow for a larger complement of intelligence officers. Communications facilities will also be upgraded to allow for more data to be sent to planetary bases for further processing.

The Orchid has stated that the DDS must greatly improve it's intelligence gathering processes as part of the new proactive policy. These Marconi updates will just be a part of that.
