In 2087 the Heavy Attack Squad became the DDS and for the next 20 years has been humanity's vanguard against alien scum. Windy has announce a summer of celebrations as the DDS celebrates 20 years of destruction. Windy said that the Utrek war would preclude full celebrations such as the military parade and fleet review originally planned but there would be smaller versions of both. There would be a reunion dinner with all (living) ex DDS personnel would be invited including ex-commanders Ronald and Nigerian Witchdoctor. Windy said, however, the best celebration would be to crush the Utrekians.

Windy announces investment in GHQ
Commander Windscorpion has announced a 1 billion zark investment programme in DDS GHQ to improve the infrastructure of the sprawling complex outside Hexian City. Network and communication systems across GHQ will be upgraded and a new monorail built to transfer personnel between the different parts of the base. Security will also be improved with enhanced defence towers fitted with a ground launched version of the TPM (SA-TPM) and upgraded laser cannons and CIWS.
Windy also announced a major new building on the site of the ex Museum of Rotarios which was unfortunately destroyed earlier in the week after a bomb fell off a F-10 in an unfortunate accident. Windy said the National Gay Porn Archive would be a key part of the new cultural life of the DDS.

Remedians tangle with Utrek again
The Remedians, buoyed by their successful ambush of Utrek minelayers, have launched a probing attack on a Utrek position near Loeuss, unfortunately it did not go quite as well. Three Kalahati Tuul 2s backed by a Moscow class EW ship launched the attack on a Utrek refuelling stop. One Utrek ship (thought to be Kalahati Tuul) was destroyed as was the Utrek oiler. Two other ships were damaged and fled.
However during the attack 2 Utrek Molentic Tuul which had been lying nearby cloaked launched a counterattack and destroyed the Moscow EW ship 7301R Moscow and damaged one of the Remedian KT2s, though it and the others were able to retreat. The Moscow was an ex-DDS ship. The DDS have told the Remedians that assets like EW ships must not be left vulnerable.

Remedians regain some face
Four Remedian warships have managed to ambush the Utrekians as they were attempting to lay mines near Remedia Prime. Five Kalahati Tuuls were attempting to mine a trade route between the second moon of Remedia 6 and the surface which is often used by mineral transports. The Remedian ships, having shadowed the mining group from when they crossed the front line (it's thought the Utrek cloaks were compromised in some way - one ship may have had a faulty cloak), waited until the Utrekians had decloaked and dropped shields to lay their mines before attacking.
Two Kalahati Tuuls were destroyed and a third damaged and captured. The other two ships managed to escape. The captured ship has been towed back to Remedia Prime and the Remedians hope to be able to use it.

Amid high-security Dino Consul Ronald has visited DDS GHQ for talks with DDS Commander Windscorpion. They discussed the war with the Utrekians and how to proceed reported a DDS spokesman. They also discussed how to try and bring in extra allies into the war to help though its thought they discounted trying to bring in the HCS.

He also announced that the Dinos and DDS had set up a special joint research group to develop counters to Utrekian weapons and new offensive technologies. Dino - Utrek skirmish near Algol 7
A Dino squadron has engaged with a Utrek raiding party near the Remedian planet of Algol 7. Its thought the Utrek were en route to attack the planet which has some major mining and processing facilities when they were detected by a force of Dino ships. Its not known why the Dinos were in the area but its thought they might have been training before they join the other allied forces near Remedia Prime.
One Dinomark XT was destroyed and two other Dinomarks were damaged in the short battle. Analysis : The Evolution Of The Windy
Windscorpion was confirmed as DDS Commander following a meeting of the Central Council, as expected the vote was unanimous. To celebrate Windy revealed some details about his past and showed how his look has evolved over the years. Back when Windy was sweet sixteen and just another hot gay teen in Stoke (albeit one who had been in the gym a lot) Windy started his new look very simply, a simple helmet painted black with very rudimentary air filtration systems.After Windy left Stoke to become a soldier of fortune on Proxima 7 Windy began to develop his helmet. The second version of the Windy helmet saw it reach the form now familiar to us though the filtration system remained simple and only really useful against smoke. The helmet did include a built in radio however, the start of the uber-tech that signifies the apogee of man. There was also a basic infrared mode.
Back in the mid-2080s Windy worked as a hired gun in the badlands of Proxima 7 and it was on one of his many missions Windy was badly injured in a chlorine gas attack. After Windy had recovered he knew he had to boost the air filtration systems of his helmet.
Thus came the third version of the Windy helmet, and the one he wore in his early years in the DDS. We see the birth of the characteristic "snout" as Windy fitted in several layers of air filtration affording protection against chemical and biological weapons. Windy was also developing his famous Adventure Backpack and his helmet included a targeting eye-up display though the weapons were fired from controls on Windy's arms.
Finally came the fourth Windy helmet which has remained now unchanged (externally) since the early 2090s. The snout has been enlarged to add radiological filtration as well as extra layers of chemical defence. The helmet also includes a built in megaphone for sending orders to troops as well as a comprehensive communications suite with eye-up display of videophone messages. The view Windy sees in his helmet is purely synthetic drawing on the actual view outside augmented with extra information and tactical updates. Gay porn is also available on demand.
Improved targeting systems have been added to thought activation of Windy's backpack weapons. Windy's helmet has developed from a simple black painted helmet to the uber-tech of today. Windy is always improving his technology too even if the exterior appearance has remained unchanged for some years. Windy is looking at adding virtual reality information from the DDS Virtual Universe computer system to give him an unrivalled tactical view.

Terran Sea Tactical Update 2107 (TSTU-07)
The Terran Sea frigate fleet is to receive a tactical update designed to improve the combat effectiveness of the frigate which forms the backbone of the combat fleet. Terran Sea Tactical Update 2107 (TSTU-07) is designed to fit around ship's normal maintenance routines and will take no more than 4-5 days as a ship receives a B Exam refit (which DDS warships typically receive 3 times a year).
TSTU-07 includes a roll-up of C spec software and some equipment to earlier models of the Terran Sea fleet (so C spec updates will be faster) but also will include modifications to the Z-cannon and other tactical systems as well as updated shields and cloaking device. The DDS say that TSTU-07 will improve the effectiveness of the Terran Sea by 10% (how this is worked out and what is actually means was not explained). Improvements will include faster response times in the tactical system, faster loading and firing of the missile launcher, faster charging and targeting of the Z-cannon and the shields will be designed to work better against Utrek weapons. Reptoli Tuul strikes again
The feared new Utrek warship the Reptoli Tuul has been encountered again. One, accompanied by 3 Molentic Tuuls, attacked a DDS / Remedian subspace relay station near Bintang Minor and badly damaged the facility. The attack has cut available bandwidth between the DDS and Remedia by 70% making communications much more difficult. Its thought the attack was made by the same ships that attacked Solaris.
DDS Research are currently studying telemetry, signal intelligence and even CCTV footage of the Solaris attack and are working on counters to the RT's sting weapon and teleport capability.

Ronald to meet Windscorpion?
Although details have been suppressed for security reasons its thought Consul Ronald is en route to Proxima 7 to have a meeting with the DDS Commander (which was Rotarios when Ronald set out but will be Windscorpion when he gets there). Ronald is known to have left Dino-Land in his flagship Dinomark last week for an unspecified location.
Its known Ronald wants to come up with a strategy for the war with the DDS, with maybe the Dinos taking charge of the Loeuss front while the DDS concentrate on the central front.

Dinos score success
The Dinos managed to gain some revenge on the Utrek after a successful ambush left 9 Utrek Molentic Tuul cruisers destroyed. The Dino force, under the command of Tribune The Dragon (a Dino infamous for his special operations exploits and trickery), used a Dinomark XT as bait to lure a squadron of MTs into an ambush. The trap was successful and 9 MTs were destroyed.
The Dinomark used as bait was badly damaged and had to be written off, 7 crewmembers aboard DM90 died and most of the rest were badly injured but their heroism in continuing to lure the Utrek into the optimal ambush location despite being blown to pieces was great.

The Utrek have dealt the DDS a devastating blow when a raid on Solaris managed to destroy the DeMass Facility, the large orbital factory producing 90% of the DDS' TPM (Trans-Phasic Missile) supply. As the TPM is the key weapon in the DDS nowadays this is a severe blow. The DDS have immediately said that TPMs must be rationed until a new factory can be built.

Hours after HCS Inspectorate's General White said the HCS was gripped by paralysis one of the longest serving HCS commanders has taken the unprecedented step in resigning! Doombringer, the commander of the HCS Space Navy and one of the figures from the early days of the HCS, said he was tired of politics and delay and wished to find new challenges.
Chief delay of course being the HCS OPV 08 which is now so delayed some wags have suggested it be renamed OPV 09 or 10. The patrol boat is one of the most important projects in HCS history, it is eventually intended to form a fleet of 100 ships to replace the Kalahati Tuul family in the HCS. Unfortunately delays mean that the first ships won't arrive in time to replace the oldest Kalahati Tuuls, some sources report that as many as 3 KTs are unusable and by this time next year the number could be in double figures. One ship is said to be so unsafe even turning on it's reactor core is considered too dangerous.

"Some of the differences are so petty its ridiculous, in one case the Tapir project was delayed for a week over wrangling on font size on the hatch!"
White says that the HCS needs to split procurement between it's 3 separate territories, citing the reborn HCS Navy as being the only service to be proceeding well as its purely under the control of the Friar's HCS. Alternatively the HCS should be taken out of territorial control and there be a central authority to decide on specifications and procurement.

Acting Commander Windscorpion addressed the media today and detailed some changes to the DDS in the short-term. He said the Utrek War was first priority of course and more major changes including a complete review of the DDS armed forces would have to wait until the outcome of the war. Windy said he would be remaining at GHQ for a week at least to allow for a refit to his flagship (and for it to have C3 equipment added) before joining the fleet in the Remedian Belt, he said he would oversee some changes in those few days.
Change one would be to form a Ruling Council for the DDS, it would be headed by himself but also include Firefly, The Shiner and Sea Urchin. Firefly and Sea Urchin are currently injured though Firefly will be travelling back to Proxima 7 next week to resume light duties. Windy said the Council will handle the day to day running of the DDS while he himself concentrates on the "big picture" and overseeing operations.
Change two was the disbanding of the Hoods (not that many are left) and their associated organisations. DDS GHQ has been thrown into chaos by the appearance of Windy in the Hall Of Heroes, he is said to have butchered the bulk of the Hoods so they lay in "heaps of dead" and destroyed Lord Rotarios, proclaiming himself DDS Commander. The remaining Hoods were slaughtered by the Windy Massive who rose in rebellion at Windy's command to seize control of the DDS.
Windy has sent a message to all DDS bases and units calling for the arrest of all Hoods, though it has been reported that in many cases Hoods have been killed by DDS men taking revenge for years of oppression and abuse. On SS North America, for example, the 3 Hoods aboard were treated to a space walk sans space suits...
Windy said this to the DDS, "The New DDS Project has failed and has been cancelled. I shall lead the DDS as acting commander until a proper election can take place in which i shall stand. The corruption of Lord Tincan and the Hoods has been destroyed and is replaced by the spiritual and life-affirming philosophy of Windyism! Just ask yourselves : what would Jesus do? Then you will know the true course of action."
Rotarios' lieutenant Action Painting and his deputy Redjec were both arrested, Rotarios loyalist The Orchid has yet to make a comment and remains in command of the DDS fleet.

Utrek preparing for offensive at Remedia Prime?
There are strong rumours that the Utrek are preparing to try and regain the initiative and resume their push for Remedia Prime. A powerful fleet of around 48 DDS and Remedian warships* are now protecting the Remedian capital but the Utrek can perhaps deploy a fleet of over 120 ships against them, many of these ships are older Kalahati Tuuls though.

Allies halt Utrek offensive on Loeuss
The Dino airpower recently deployed to Loeuss has helped halt a Utrek offensive against the main DDS-Remedia lines. A Utrek tank division threatened the Allies line but the Dinomarks were able to launch a devastating attack. A swarm of Utrek UCAVs, of a type not before seen, then attacked the Dinomarks and threatened to defeat the Dinos but the control tower was located and destroyed and the UCAVs retreated, having reverted to a pre-programmed routine. Three of the Dinomarks were damaged and 6 Dinos killed but the ships should be back repaired within days.
The Utrek retreated back to their lines but are sure to launch another attack soon, the re-inforcements are desperately needed but won't arrive for some weeks yet.

Rumours are flying around the DDS that Windscorpion was responsible for the destruction of SS Hood and the Hood camp on New Jakarta. It is now said that SS Carboniferous is on it's way to GHQ to "finish off Rotarios". Windy himself cannot be contacted, for some reason communications with his ship are down and Carboniferous' telemetry has been turned off, said to be for "technical reasons". This means that the DDS cannot track Windy's ship.
There has been an upsurge of violence at GHQ as members of Windy's organisation Windy Massive attacked a group of Hoods and beat them up. One Hood is said to have had his bottom pinched too and is now undergoing councilling.

Remedians gain some revenge
Four Remedian warships, accompanied by a DDS frigate, have made a successful attack on a Utrek refuelling point near Mila. Two Utrek ships was reported destroyed and 3 others damaged in the attack which also saw the refuelling ship destroyed and a nearby Utrek freighter also thought killed. One Remedian Kalahati Tuul suffered some light damage but the Allied ships recloaked and escaped before the Utrek could properly reply. Its thought the Remedian ships used updated DDS cloaking devices and TPMs in the attack, the TPM can transform a ship even as shit as a Kalahati Tuul into something useful a DDS source said.
The DDS said this now puts confirmed Utrek losses at 107, even a fleet as large as the Utrekian will struggle with such losses the DDS spokesman said.

Reports of nuking of Hood camp on New Jakarta
Some media outlets are reporting that a base on New Jakarta used by the Hoods for training has been destroyed by a nuclear missile. The unnamed camp, the existance of which is still denied by the Hoods and the New DDS, was utterly destroyed by the missile fired by an unknown ship in orbit.
Windscorpion, aboard SS Carboniferous, just happens to be in the area but he told reporters he didn't see who made the attack, he said it was "most unfortunate."

First Quasar ILU enters service
Last august 1201 Quasar became the first of it's class to enter the ILU (Intermediate Life Update) programme, earlier than planned because of Quasar's structural problems. After some delays the ship has just completed it's trials and is being prepared to re-enter service and will be sent to the front line near Remedia Prime.
The Quasar ILU is a total rebuild of the hard working ship and will keep the ship at the forefront of the DDS well into the next decade. Until the arrival of the Panther the Quasar ILU is the most powerful ship in the fleet with upgrades and updates across the board. A new engine has pushed dash speed to 1005c (making the Quasar ILU only the second DDS ship to break the 1000c barrier) with a 12 hour sustained cruise of 900c. Firepower has been upgraded with a Z5 cannon (and the ILU is Zip cannon ready), a quad-bay missile launcher (as will be used in the Panther) and improved CIWS. Tactical systems have been greatly improved allowing for the Quasar ILU and track and engage many more simultaneous targets.
Many systems have been replaced with Open Architecture 2.0 (though the Quasar is not a true OA 2.0 compliant ship), the resulting space savings has allowed missile stowage to be greatly increased.
Only 1214 Graviton at the moment is being upgraded to ILU as the programme was delayed due to the war except for ships already in process.

Four chartered ships from the DDS Merchant Navy Reserve have left Dino-Land loaded with a powerful armoured brigade (the rest of the 3rd, the first convoy took just some technical staff and liaison officers only) and 2 infantry brigades. A number of Dinomarks are accompanying the 4 ships which have been fitted out for wartime use with cloaking devices and military spec communications.
Its thought the ships will rendezvous with a task force being led by Isometric class ship SS Mississippian and also including the DDS' LHA SS Intruder and 2 Provider class transports. ANALysis : The Utrek Fleet
Using intelligence reports from various agencies as well as public domain information (and a dose of reasonable guesswork) we have calculated the make up of the Utrek Fleet. The Utrek are said to have a fleet that numbers at least 700 ships of the Tuul type. Tuul in Utrekian means warship though it's meaning in context is similar to cruiser. The Utrek also have other types of military ship though apart from the command ships these have never been seen outside of their territory. Its thought most are local patrol ships that lack interstella capability.
So the Utrek have over 700 Molentic and Kalahati Tuuls (plus an unknown number of the new Reptoli Tuul) which seems very formiddable but we have to consider that many of these ships, especially the Kalahatis are very old and very obsolete. Its estimated the fleet consists of roughly 65% Kalahati and the rest Molentic and Reptoli (but the latter in very small numbers still). Assuming a fleet of 700 cruisers that would give us around 455 Kalahati Tuuls and around 240 Molentic Tuuls plus a few Reptoli Tuuls.
However the Kalahati Tuul was in production for decades and although the ships were updated over time many of the older ships are not considered suitable for combat. These third-line ships are used as general purpose "hacks" and in some cases orbital defense posts. A Raegris report estimates the number of these third-line Kalahatis at around 250. Thus we can safely say that only around 200 Kalahatis are considered available for combat operations (though the others could be used if needs be of course). Its still a large number but most of these ships are second-line and are obsolete in themselves.
The Molentic Tuul force looks very formiddable on it's own as it consists of nearly 250 ships and many are modernised. Production is only now running down so there are a lot of nearly new Molentics in the fleet. However not all of these are available for the Utrekians to use in an attacking force.
The Utrek Urlik Federation is a large political entity, the far borders of which lie in space uncharted by the UNP or Dinos. Its known that the Utrekians have powerful enemies elsewhere on their huge borders, only the Rectoids being known about (though currently they are no longer a factor). The Raegris and Eritrans both report a mysterious force called the Manta who are the main rivals to the Utrekians on their far borders. Its thought that the Utrekians have to maintain at least 100 Molentic Tuuls along that border and around 40 to 50 at the capital planet Urlik. Back-up units of Kalahati Tuuls are also needed there and in other parts of Utrek space.
Thus from all that the DDS estimate that the most the Utrekians could deploy against the allies is around 80 to 110 Molentic Tuuls and 100-120 Kalahati Tuuls. Still very powerful fleets but with a disadvantage : there isn't much scope for reinforcement unless the Utrek wish to leave themselves open to attack from their other enemies. (Distance is another factor, its estimated that it would take a Molentic Tuul over 5 months to travel from the Manta border to Remedia). This is probably why the Utrekians have yet to launch a new offensive after losing so many ships in March.

Dinos reach Loeuss, Utrek take a hit
The Utrek lost 9 ships when the Dino relief force launched a surprise attack on the Utrek warships in orbit around Loeuss. The force of some 20 Dino ships then entered Loeuss orbit and around 8 Dinomark XTs then entered the atmosphere and launched a series of attacks on Utrek Army positions before landing in the Remedian rear. This relief force is carrying supplies such as weapons and medical supplies and also the 8 XTs will form a ground support squadron for the ground forces. A Dino Army brigade is to be deployed in another later fleet.
One Dinomark was moderately damaged in the space battle and another in the ground attack but both ships were able to continue their missions. The bulk of Senator Spikeson's force has now retreated to link up with the second relief force.

The Soulaki S1 cruiser is the most powerful ship in the HCS fleet and also the first true clean-sheet design by the HCS Space Navy and thus is a remarkable achievement by the Clones. The Soulaki project began after the massacre of the HCS by the DDS in the mid 2090s when Z-cannon armed Pulsars wiped out a large part of the HCS fleet. The HCS saw that they needed a ship in the Pulsar class, a large and powerful battlecruiser.
Up until then HCS designs had been licence built or adapted Utrek and Raegris designs but as no suitable designs were available the HCS were forced to design from scratch. Finally in 2101 the Soulaki was unveiled, easily the largest ship in the HCS fleet. The Soulaki is powerful and fast (for the HCS, it can touch on 700c) but it is also rather lumbering. HCS engine technology lags way behind the DDS and Dinos and the HCS were forced to use 2 engines on the Soulaki to get the required performance at the cost of a much bulkier and less efficient ship.
Around 25 Soulakis have been built to date and production is thought to have now ceased. The Soulaki has yet to be tested against top-of-the-line opponents, it's only combat action being in internal struggles in the HCS. The DDS consider the Soulaki is a powerful ship but one that can be countered.
