Windy has been placed in sole charge of the NS response to the recent pirate outrages including the defection of Von Kane and the multi-billion zark robbery of the Bank of Mars. Acting Director of Operations Caratore said that new codes and protocols were now being rolled out (the change needed because of the defection of NS Politburo member Von Kane who is thought to have provided data to the pirates) and would be complete within hours.
The existing Klondike deployment to fight the pirates would be beefed up considerably. This is already under Windy's command but Caratore said that all forces in the central theatre (the old DDS Centre territory) would be placed at Windy's disposal.
The investigation into the suspended Torus and Stella would begin within a few days Caratore said. Former DDS Commander Witchdoctor would chair the investigation. An outsider being bought in was considered fairer.

The crisis continues. A pirate force has attacked the Bank of Mars in Mars Central City and stolen the entire gold reserves of the Martian state. An estimated 27 billion zarks has been stolen. The pirate ship escaped, and destroyed a Sentinel 055A patrol ship which was in pursuit. All 8 crew were killed.
An Isometric 041A was in orbit but stood down because of the code lockdown, it had been given permission to perform reactor maintenance and so was unable to intervene.
The loss of the Martian gold reserves is likely to collapse the Martian economy without urgent and immediate help from the UNP (which will be forthcoming) but this too will badly hurt the UNP economy. The UNP have called a meeting with NS Commander Knobhead and are demanding answers.

The pirate crisis has deepened after an allied ship has been destroyed by a pirate ship using NS codes to disguise itself as a New Sparta ship. A Porquatian Quagan 665 frigate was destroyed in a surprise attack by a pirate ship which, according to recovered telemetry, was using a NS transponder code.
Knobhead has ordered a full lock-down of all NS and allied ships which are not to move until further notice and the full propagation of replacement codes. Ships will be permitted to act in self-defence but are to hold station and to not use active sensors until further notice.

NS in crisis over Von Kane defection, alert status RED
The Head of NS North Von Kane has defected to the pirates, a move which has hurled New Sparta into chaos. Earlier today his ship SS Velocity joined Windy's ship SS Infinity (and another Type 35) in the hunt for the pirates who stole TPMs and badly damaged SS Trader. Von Kane then betrayed New Sparta by murdering his bridge crew then turning his ship's weapons on the other ships badly damaging them. There were casualties aboard both ships though Windy and Firefly survived with just some minor injuries. Von Kane is thought to have teleported to the pirate ship which escaped.

Trader attack update
071-110 Trader has been reached by NS ships who have confirmed the ship has been badly damaged. However the shock is Trader appears to have been damaged by a TPM! NS Engineering teams say that somehow one of Trader's own TPMs turned around and destroyed the command section of the ship. Telemetry is now being analysed but one unconfirmed report says that somehow the pirates hacked into the guidance beam of the TPM to turn it on the NS ship.
It is also confirmed that Trader has been emptied of its cargo of TPMs. Knobhead has called an emergency meeting of the NS Politburo.

Provider attacked by pirates, TPMs stolen?
A Provider transport has been attacked and severely damaged by pirates near Sanga Alpha. The ship has not yet been named but is said to have been knocked out of action with numerous fatalities aboard the ship. The ship was without escorts but did carry a number of TPMs and an enhanced self-protection tactical system.
NS is not confirming the rumour that the ship had been carrying TPMs between a factory on Solaris and a depot on Sanga Alpha. If so then it must be assumed the missiles are now in pirate hands. NS has raised its alert status to its second highest level ORANGE.

Second helicopter carrier enters service with Clone Navy
In a rare bit of good news for the cash starved Clone Navy the second (and final) West Clone Republic class helicopter carrier has entered service. R05 Beyond Micom will join R04 West Clone Republic in supporting amphibious operations and ASW.
The building of Beyond Micom has been much delayed. The first ship was built in 2112 and R05 was laid down the year after with an original target date for service of 2114 but budget pressures have delayed completion.

F-10SNG begins flight tests
The third and final generation of the main NS fighter the F-10S, known as the SNG, has begun flight testing. The SNG has an improved tactical computer system, 3D vector thrust and an improved weapons bay. Fifty SNGs are on order to join the 80 F-10SIMs and F-10SEPs in service. Deliveries are expected to begin next year.
The SNG will allow the Clone Wars era F-10A to finally be retired. Although they have been updated to ASE standard the A is now pretty obsolete and long overdue replacement. The NS Air Corps have no plans for what will follow on from the SNG though it is likely the older planes will be bought up to SNG standard in the 2120s.

NS resume Klondike mission
New Sparta has restarted the Klondike mission against pirate activity in UNP space. The mission began last year but became very frustrating for NS as the pirates, said to be led by a Yengite Dino, have managed to avoid any contact with NS ships and hid in the many asteroid and interstellar bodies near Sanga Alpha.
With pirate activity increasing NS have strengthened the Klondike deployment, commanded by Windscorpion. A source said that NS has been busy mapping and covering all pirate hide-outs as they are discovered and the net is closing on the pirates.

Operation Mass Field 2117
The latest exercise is Operation Mass Field, one of the new exercises making its debut this year. The aim of Mass Field is to practice co-operation between New Sparta and its allies. An NS fleet and ships from the Remedians, Raegris, Porquat 640 and Free Eritran States will take part in a number of mock combats and training scenarios over the next 2 weeks. The NS ships involved will be:

The new fuel efficient Proton engines fitted to (now) 3 Pentekonter 044s are clocking up the hours (and light years). One ship in the Departmental Fleet recently successfully completed a 4 week long intensive programme of flight tests. The Proton RM-01 engine has now been returned to NS Engineering where it has been stripped down and will be closely analysed for any problems such as cracking.
Problems are not expected with the RM-01 though which so far has been remarkably trouble free for a new engine family. The uprated RM-02X has had some problems it has been reported but NS Technology chief Sea Urchin said there were no "show stoppers".

Clones send mission to Urlik Utrekia
A 7 ship fleet is understood to have arrived at the shattered capital of the Utrek Federation (if that can be still considered to exist) from Cloneworld carrying relief supplies. A senior Clone Star Empire diplomat also met with the Utrek military commander on the planet to discuss how more help could be sent.
