Windy has been placed in sole charge of the NS response to the recent pirate outrages including the defection of Von Kane and the multi-billion zark robbery of the Bank of Mars. Acting Director of Operations Caratore said that new codes and protocols were now being rolled out (the change needed because of the defection of NS Politburo member Von Kane who is thought to have provided data to the pirates) and would be complete within hours.
The existing Klondike deployment to fight the pirates would be beefed up considerably. This is already under Windy's command but Caratore said that all forces in the central theatre (the old DDS Centre territory) would be placed at Windy's disposal.
The investigation into the suspended Torus and Stella would begin within a few days Caratore said. Former DDS Commander Witchdoctor would chair the investigation. An outsider being bought in was considered fairer.

Pirates raid Bank of Mars, Torus suspended
The crisis continues. A pirate force has attacked the Bank of Mars in Mars Central City and stolen the entire gold reserves of the Martian state. An estimated 27 billion zarks has been stolen. The pirate ship escaped, and destroyed a Sentinel 055A patrol ship which was in pursuit. All 8 crew were killed.
An Isometric 041A was in orbit but stood down because of the code lockdown, it had been given permission to perform reactor maintenance and so was unable to intervene.
The loss of the Martian gold reserves is likely to collapse the Martian economy without urgent and immediate help from the UNP (which will be forthcoming) but this too will badly hurt the UNP economy. The UNP have called a meeting with NS Commander Knobhead and are demanding answers.
Knobhead also wants answers. He has launched an investigation into the bungling of the pirate crisis so far. Director of Operations Torus and NS+ Chief Stella have both been suspended. Caratore has been made acting Director of Operations.

Porquatian ship destroyed by pirates using NS codes
The pirate crisis has deepened after an allied ship has been destroyed by a pirate ship using NS codes to disguise itself as a New Sparta ship. A Porquatian Quagan 665 frigate was destroyed in a surprise attack by a pirate ship which, according to recovered telemetry, was using a NS transponder code.
Knobhead has ordered a full lock-down of all NS and allied ships which are not to move until further notice and the full propagation of replacement codes. Ships will be permitted to act in self-defence but are to hold station and to not use active sensors until further notice.
